楞嚴咒由來:
楞嚴會前，阿難因隻身赴遠方齋主應供，未及返回趕上波斯匿王供佛營齋，在舍衛城內獨自逐門乞食。經淫戶遇摩登伽女，為之所喜，女求其母用幻術攝阿難入淫席，阿難將毀戒體。
釋迦牟尼佛離席返回祇樹給孤獨園，大放光明，宣說《楞嚴咒》，並遣文殊菩薩持咒往護阿難，幻術遇咒而解，阿難及摩登伽女同歸佛所。阿難慚愧啟請佛修定力之法而促成楞嚴會，日後結集為《楞嚴經》，卷七中並載楞嚴咒。

楞嚴咒的功:
(1)持咒的眾生，縱其自身不作福業，十方如來所有功德，悉與此人。
(2)不持此咒而坐道場，令其身心遠諸魔事，無有是處！
(3)是故如來宣示楞嚴咒，於未來世，保護初學諸修行者。
(4)有此咒地，十二由旬(960里)成結界地，諸惡災祥永不能入。
(5)十方如來傳此咒心，於滅度後付佛法事，究竟住持，嚴淨戒律，悉得清淨。
(6)金剛藏菩薩︰「世尊，如是修心求正定人，若在道場及餘經行，乃至散心遊戲聚落，我等徒眾，常當隨從侍衛此人。縱令魔王大自在天，求其方便，終不可得！諸小鬼神，去此善人十由旬外，除彼發心樂修禪者。」
(7)金剛藏菩薩︰「世尊，如是惡魔若魔眷屬，欲來侵擾是善人者，我以寶杵殞碎其首，猶如微塵，恆令此人，所作如願。」
(8)配戴楞嚴咒，能得無量百千金剛、梵王、天帝釋、四天大王、無量藥叉大將、諸羅剎王、富單那王、鳩槃茶王、毗舍遮王、頻那夜迦、諸大鬼王、諸鬼帥、無量日月天子、風師、雨師、雲師、雷師、電伯、年歲巡官、諸星眷屬、無量山神、海神、一切土地、水陸空行、萬物精祇、風神王、無色界天的擁護。
