Description

CipherMail for Android is an Android application which can be used with your existing Android mail application to send and receive S/MIME digitally signed and encrypted email with an Android smartphone.

Features:

- S/MIME 3.1 (X.509, RFC 3280), email encryption and digital signing
- Can be used with the Android Gmail application
- Compatible with existing S/MIME clients (like Outlook, Thunderbird etc.)
- Message and attachments are encrypted
- HTML email support
- Certificates are automatically extracted
- CRLs supported (LDAP and HTTP)
- Certificate trust lists (CTLs) for black/white listing certificates
- LDAP servers can be searched for certificates
- Can generate self-signed certificates for a 'private-PKI'

Notes:

- CipherMail for Android does not provide functionality to retrieve email. An existing Android mail application, for example Gmail, K9 or the default Android email client, should be used to retrieve the encrypted attached smime.p7m message.
- Clear signed digitally signed message can only be verified by opening the message as an .eml file from a file. The complete message is required for validation. Existing mail clients however do not provide access to the complete message.
- If you are using O365, please make sure that SMTP is enabled.

Permissions:

The Contacts permission is required to lookup the recipients for the compose page. If the Contacts permission is not granted, the application will function correctly but recipients cannot be looked-up.

Questions & Answers

Q: What is an APK File?

A: Just like Windows (PC) systems use an .exe file for installing software, Android does the same. An APK file is the file format used for installing software on the Android operating system.

Q: If I install an APK from this website, will I be able to update the app from the Play Store?

A: Yes, absolutely. The Play Store installs APKs it downloads from Google's servers, and sideloading from a site like ApkClean.net goes through a very similar process, except you're the one performing the downloading and initiating the installation (sideloading).
As soon as the Play Store finds a version of the app newer than the one you've sideloaded, it will commence an update.

Q: Why ApkClean.net can guarantee APK 100% safe?

A: Whenever someone wants to download an APK file from ApkClean.net, we'll check the corresponding APK file on Google Play and allow user download it directly (of course, we'll cache it on our server). If the APK file does not exist on Google Play, we'll search it in our cache.

Q: What are Android App permissions?

A: Apps require access to certain systems within your device. When you install an application, you are notified of all of the permissions required to run that application.

5 ★Impressive I got it working on my Nexus 7 using an otb USB cable and the Nexus Media Importer app to upload the .p12 certificate key. Great functionality...but I also had to find and upload the INTERMEDIATE certificate, which was missing. Otherwise, the app would not validate my cert and allow my cert to be used. Nice work! I can't imagine any product working better in the android os. Running Android 4.3
1 ★The app kept saying my certificate was expired and refused to use it when it is perfectly valid and works on any other computer without a problem. Also only one email account is supported at a time, so you can not set up multiple email accounts.
4 ★It would be nice if the setup wizard imported my CA cert and private key but it was easy enough to do it after setup. Works great with gmail app.
5 ★Excellent app to read and send encrypted emails. Intuitive and simple interface. Decent integration with the OS.
3 ★I still cannot open the singed emails by other senders or even sent by myself with signed and encrypted in my built-in Email app of Samsung Galaxy S directly. There is no Preview button but only Save. I have to save it to storage then open it with this app.
3 ★Looking at the other alternatives, this is the only real choice if you need S/MIME support and free. It's annoying that you cannot disable the requirement for a keystore password (considering the device is normally locked anyway) and the UI looks antiquated.
5 ★Works perfectly on my Nexus4 with K9. Like the way it uses its own key store - this means credential security on my nexus is not invoked.
5 ★Does what claims
5 ★Does exactly what it claims. Currently the best option I have seen for S/MIME. Thank you.
5 ★Excellent app
5 ★Tried some s/mime clients, DJIGZO works most easily, especially certificate import is very easy compared to others. Only thing missing is email s/mime signature validation.
5 ★Effective solution doing what the developer claims it does. Can't score it down for lack of non-GMail support becasue it doesn't claim to have it. Works great with my GMail and S/MIME. They'll never be able to target ads at me! ;-)
