全国434スクリーンで公開され、オープニング2日間で動員97万4557人、興収10億5780万8800円を記録。これは昨年12月20日より公開され、15年度邦画No.1の興収78億円をあげた前作「映画 妖怪ウォッチ 誕生の秘密だニャン！」の興収比64.9%の成績。そう、昨年の「妖怪ウォッチ」1作目は、オープニング2日間で興収16億2800万円を叩き出しています。
他の作品が「スター・ウォーズ フォースの覚醒」を避ける中、真っ向勝負を挑んだ「妖怪ウォッチ」が、ハイレベルなオープニング対決を制しました。妖怪メダルとカードが付いた劇場前売券は最終的に102万4825枚を記録し、2年連続で100万枚を突破。さらに入場者にも映画最重要キャラクターのメダルがプレゼントされるとあって、子どもたちが大挙して劇場に詰め掛けた模様です。最終興収で60億円は超えてきそうな出足です。
