※紫微斗数は、非常に精密な計算の上に成り立っているので、本来は生時が不明の場合は占えませんが、生まれた時刻が分からない場合は、自覚している性格によって生時を推定し、運勢を判断します。
紫微斗数（しび－とすう）は占いの一種。唐末から宋の時代にかけての有名な仙人であった陳希夷が創始したと伝えられている。紫微斗数の名前は、北極星である紫微星を主とする星々から運命（＝数）を量る枡（＝斗）を意味している。
中国や台湾ではよく知られており、子平（八字、四柱推命）と併用されることもある。日本ではあまり知られていなかったが、最近は徐々に知られるようになって来ている。もっとも日本において第二次大戦以前から阿部泰山が紫微斗数の講習を行っており、これは香港や台湾における紫微斗数の流行に先駆けている。現代の紫微斗数は幾つかの流派に分かれているが、どれも明の嘉靖29年(1550年)に出版された『紫微斗数全書』を原典として、その上に各派独自の解釈を加えている。『紫微斗数全書』の著者である羅洪先は陳希夷18代の子孫を自称した。また一部には紫薇斗数の表記を採用している流派がある。
ただし、北派紫微斗数、道蔵紫微斗数あるいは術天機太乙金井紫微斗数、十八飛星策天紫微斗数と呼ばれる占術は、紫微斗数の名前を共有していても本項の紫微斗数とは全く異なる技術体系を持っている。そこで本項の紫微斗数を北派紫微斗数と区別するために、南派紫微斗数と呼ぶことがある。
英語圏でも知られるようになってきており、紫微斗数の読みそのままのZi Wei Dou Shuや紫微星をもじったPurple Star Astrologyと呼ばれている。
