Description
儒道二旨同歸殊塗。以教言則異；以道言則同。老子，聖人也；孔子，亦聖人也。其所聞道，亦同出也。老子輕世重身，獨安清淨，故其為道日損；孔子用世存心，砥礪德行，故其為道日益。然損者反求諸內，此悟性道之易也；益者崇尚其功，此立德之宏也。而為教者，宜其益也。故儒適日用，人樂服從，而視道為高深，為隱僻也。惟欲知本源，必明虛靜；欲求功行，必達仁義。二者終無異也。故孔子之徒述中庸之言，紹脩道之教，以傳先聖易禮之義。即孔子問道老子之意也。後人乃爭二者之異同，徒見其無解於道，並無解於老、孔之學也。修道也者，不可有儒、道之分。推而言之，凡以道教者均無可分，此解道者所同知也。故《中庸》之書，誠不異《道德》之言；而孔氏之傳，誠不殊老子之教也。
夫道不可以他學藝比。精一虛靜，然後得日損其行，至於無為，而道乃見，而脩乃成。故老子有「有，欲觀竅；無，欲觀妙」之語也。「有」者為「無」所生；「無」者為「有」所成。而言有者，欲其有所觀於竅，其《中庸》「致曲」之義也；言無者，欲其觀於妙，其《大學》「止至善」之義也。
