Questions & Answers

Q: What is an APK File?

A: Just like Windows (PC) systems use an .exe file for installing software, Android does the same. An APK file is the file format used for installing software on the Android operating system.

Q: If I install an APK from this website, will I be able to update the app from the Play Store?

A: Yes, absolutely. The Play Store installs APKs it downloads from Google's servers, and sideloading from a site like ApkClean.net goes through a very similar process, except you're the one performing the downloading and initiating the installation (sideloading).
As soon as the Play Store finds a version of the app newer than the one you've sideloaded, it will commence an update.

Q: Why ApkClean.net can guarantee APK 100% safe?

A: Whenever someone wants to download an APK file from ApkClean.net, we'll check the corresponding APK file on Google Play and allow user download it directly (of course, we'll cache it on our server). If the APK file does not exist on Google Play, we'll search it in our cache.

Q: What are Android App permissions?

A: Apps require access to certain systems within your device. When you install an application, you are notified of all of the permissions required to run that application.

User's Reivew

1 ★Slowed down phone performance, caused other apps but to hang. Vastly inferior to original Google News, used to be able to easily scan headlines, glean what was going on in the world. Now it looks more like the NPR website, pretty, nice big graphics, needs much more bandwidth, must scroll a lot more to cruise through headlines. Inefficient. A pleasure to jettison it.
3 ★Good user interface, and I really like the "full coverage" option on articles. However, it freezes up a LOT on my older phone, resulting in me force closing the app. I also REALLY miss the ability to remove or add custom sections that the old Google News & Weather App had... I couldn't possibly care less about sports, and entertainment articles about TV shows are almost always rife with potentially massive spoilers since seemingly most "entertainment journalists" forgot or just didn't learn how to write proper "teasers" (not Google's fault, but still...), and yet I have no way to get rid of or even hide those sections! And I miss my custom mobile tech, gaming, and political sections. It feels just a bit like they want to spoon-feed me what's "important" according to them. Here's hoping they add the customization options that are sorely missing!
2 ★Forced to switch to this after News and Weather app removed. Don't like that I can't set more customization like default screen is Headlines. And would love to see one headline story with an option to see multiple articles related instead of wasting my screen space with 2 articles about the same thing. Also want an option to limit the number of top headlines articles to display. And ideally a way to say what topics to not display without having to keep clicking on articles. Ie: I'm not interested in sports but had to say don't show me articles from multiple sports magazines/networks. All of this was already provided in the old, discontinued app. This forced upgrade is very disappointing. I'll be looking for a new news app.
1 ★I used to love this app - it was the only app that let me see both local news from my hometown and local news from my current city in the same place. I don't know what they changed in the last update, but oh my god the unending annoyance of the random refreshes. I can't get past it. I hoped it was a bug that would be fixed either by a phone restart or an update, neither of which have worked/happened. Google. Come on. I know y'all know better than this. What were you thinking?? Why would anyone actually enjoy the page refreshing and jumping back up to the top literally every 30 seconds? What would possess you?? Please change this, I'm begging. Soon. Clearly it's far more of a complaint than just me.
2 ★A long-standing problem within the app is video playback: many news articles come with embedded videos and when played work fine, until you change the orientation of your device (either intentionally or unintentionally). The whole page—along with the video—are completely re-rendered without the playback position or state getting saved. While I like the application of Material Design principles, this goes against basic UX fundamentals—especially when the majority of these videos are embedded from YouTube (meaning Google controls both ends of the presentation problem)! Additionally, the problem does NOT exist within Chrome—a program with which Google News likely shares a lot of code for rendering webpages. This problem severely detracts from an otherwise great user experience that I hope will be improved over time (along with my rating)!
1 ★Stupid new layout shows only a couple stories. Stupid animated headlines hard to read and take up far too much of the screen. Home screen widget is useless in that it shows you one news story out of five total. The old app showed about 10 news articles in a concise, easy to read format. No more weather in widget. I hate everything about this new app. Thanks for fixing something that wasn't broken, Google.
1 ★I HATE that I had to get rid of the Google News and Weather app. I loved the weather widget, and there are none like it that show you in one row the weather for the next few days, with the highs and lows. Also, can't find a good app to show you the weather in the app quickly for the temp, humidity, precipitation and wind nicely. FINALLY, where are the Local sections? Those were my favorite pieces...
1 ★Update: the more I think about the new Google news compared to the old news&weather app the less I like it. I have limited time during the day so my use case is to get a quick precis of headlines, maybe read one or two articles and go back to what I'm supposed to be doing. The new app requires, no demands, our time to try and train it about our preferences rather than simple settings that are set and forget and then insists on taking over our screens to show multiple takes on the same story, all of which we are supposed to spend time reading to become well informed and balanced. It also wastes our screen space with pointless images, acres of white space, extra swipes just to scroll those giant, empty cards and then tries to waste more time by trying to get us to passively watch videos. Sorry but just no. Definitely a step back in user experiences from news and weather. The use of screen space is atrocious, often showing only one story per screen but with 2 nearly identical headlines from different providers for "balance" and the so-called Ai is a poor substitute for the filtering and search abilities in the previous iteration of Google News. I know that I'm not Googles customer, I'm it's product, but still you need people to use the apps and services to justify charging advertisers and these service downgrades are driving people like me away.
3 ★I am looking for a widget that gives me top stories. This app has a ton of articles if you search, but it doesn't listen to your preferences and learn. For instance, I had searched on google for a few questions regarding the Avengers movie in May. It is now September and my top 5 articles nearly always has articles about Marvel. I have told it to "show fewer", but it didn't stop. Frustrating.
2 ★News & Weather used to be great. This app is trying to serve me "personalized" news. Apart from my dislike for the increased echo chamber effect... This app is barely usable. It auto-refreshes all the time while I'm in the middle of scrolling thru headlines. It formats articles badly, leaves out pictures that are references in the article copy, and is generally crappy.
3 ★I'll admit the functionality and interface aren't terrible, but I liked "Google news and weather" because I could tune out topics. I could look at custom searches about travel or marvel movies, and not even see the "headlines" as determined by news organizations. Now I'm shoehorned to "for you" which can't be changed and I have to dig through the app to get to my saved searches. Now I can no longer see the non-headline news stories only, unless I create 20 shortcuts to the homescreen. Needless to say, I'll be searching for a better free news app. Edit: After searching, I'm coming to realizing there's no complete news app that can replace what I enjoyed about Google news and weather. There's some that are better at customization but offer no substance (topBuzz), there's some that strongly lean to one side of the political spectrum (cable news apps), there's some don't even include all news sources (Smart News), and of course the ones with substance are even less customizable then Google news (NPR, cable news apps). So still taking off stars for making me dig through the app to get to my saved searches. Also stars off for not making headlines customizable and getting rid of the preview article feature.
2 ★This apps news feed keep snapping to the top. It makes it useless half the time. I can be 3 pages down and then it snaps to the top. Terrible! On top of that, this major update broke the auto download feature. Now when I'm on the subway I can no longer read my favorites news sources. This used to be my favorite app, now I'm considering looking else where. Please fix.
