【南傳佛典】南傳佛教是由印度向南傳到斯裡蘭卡並且不斷發展形成的佛教派系。在教義上，南傳佛教傳承了佛教中上座部佛教的系統，遵照佛陀以及聲聞弟子們的言教和行持過修行生活，因此稱為「上座部佛教」（Theravàda），或可稱為「聲聞乘佛教」，也即訛稱的「小乘佛教」。
南傳佛教主要流傳於斯裡蘭卡、緬甸、泰國、柬埔寨、寮國等南亞和東南亞國家，以及我國雲南省的傣族、布朗族、崩龍族一帶地區。南傳佛教使用的經典語言屬於巴利語體系，所以也稱為「巴利語系佛教」。
