Description

The FCC Speed Test app is part of both the FCC’s Broadband Data Collection (BDC) and its Measuring Broadband America programs. The BDC tests run by users will help to improve the accuracy of the FCC’s broadband maps showing mobile coverage areas. The Measuring Broadband America program assists with improving the transparency, accuracy, and availability of data on the performance of broadband services in the United States.

App Options

* Run tests in Speed Test mode to check your connection or in Challenge mode to challenge wireless coverage and improve the FCC’s Broadband Map.

* Schedule periodic automatic background tests or conduct manual tests.

* Monitor data usage and set a monthly data usage cap to minimize the data limit excess on a monthly data plan.

* Store test results to compare them over time.

* Export a .zip file containing data collected during tests, as well as additional passive data supported by your device.

Before You Install

The new FCC Speed Test app replaces the legacy version. If you have installed a prior version of this app and wish to retain data obtained by these earlier versions, the data needs to be exported to your device or emailed to you. All previous test results will be permanently deleted upon installation of this new FCC Speed Test app version.

Privacy

Your privacy is safeguarded, and you can opt-in to share information with certain parties. See the Privacy Notice or download the app for more information.

The app may share contact information with your provider to help the FCC build more accurate mobile broadband coverage maps, along with information on the conditions in which the test was run.

The Bigger Picture

By using the FCC Speed Test app, you will help improve the FCC’s maps of mobile coverage across America. The data from these tests contribute to the FCC’s Broadband Data Collection and the Measuring Broadband America programs. The programs are run by the FCC to fulfill its Congressional mandates to collect and make publicly available accurate and transparent performance metrics on U.S. broadband.

Questions & Answers

Q: What is an APK File?

A: Just like Windows (PC) systems use an .exe file for installing software, Android does the same. An APK file is the file format used for installing software on the Android operating system.

Q: If I install an APK from this website, will I be able to update the app from the Play Store?

A: Yes, absolutely. The Play Store installs APKs it downloads from Google's servers, and sideloading from a site like ApkClean.net goes through a very similar process, except you're the one performing the downloading and initiating the installation (sideloading).
As soon as the Play Store finds a version of the app newer than the one you've sideloaded, it will commence an update.

Q: Why ApkClean.net can guarantee APK 100% safe?

A: Whenever someone wants to download an APK file from ApkClean.net, we'll check the corresponding APK file on Google Play and allow user download it directly (of course, we'll cache it on our server). If the APK file does not exist on Google Play, we'll search it in our cache.

Q: What are Android App permissions?

A: Apps require access to certain systems within your device. When you install an application, you are notified of all of the permissions required to run that application.

User's Reivew

1 ★I have tested my download speed at over 20 different sites, quickly one after rhe other and this App constantly gets a result of less than 25% of every other site. I believe it has some major issues... I have a friend who owns a small ISP and he fully agrees...
5 ★The question is not why should you install this but, Why have you not installed it. Extremely useful and honest. It has settings to control when its allowed to test and how often. You have a readable chart in app plus if you so desire the tests can be exported to a zip file on the decive or emailed.
5 ★An incredibly important app, and so easy to use. Plus, test scheduling! Wow! What a great way to keep track of your average wifi speed throughout the day!
3 ★I'm glad it will be used to help get accurate broadband maps. But I don't know if the information is automatically uploaded to the fcc once the test is done, or if I have to submit the test data to the FCC myself.
5 ★Going to use this app over other speed tests from here on out. It is not the best presented or most reliable test, but it can very well be used to keep ISPs in check.
4 ★Weird. I have 300mbps down and 20 up from rcn. Tested back to back multiple times on this app and speed test app and it was SIGNIFICANTLY slower on this. 20-30 Mbps on this app whereas speed test showed 300 Mbps. Nice app overall though.
4 ★Needs more choices for how often tests are done such as 2,3,4 hours periods. Also needs the ability to choose which wifi was connected to only view those results. Unless it's just bugged (oneplus 8 5g)
1 ★I think it needs a bit more work. My normal home WiFi is around 300s download, and it starts picking that up and when it finishes the test it shows in the 20s. Upload speeds seem correct. With cell service it works pretty well.
1 ★The app apparently wants constant location information. I allowed it location only while app in use, but the app thinks it has no access to location information even while I'm trying to use the app? Please fix this and I will change my rating.
1 ★It almost seems that there was little, if any, testing done of this app. before it was inflicted on the consumer. It showed my ISPs address as Chicago. The actual location is 600 miles from Chicago. I know my download speed and I have Speed test. The download speed provided by the FCC product was 25% lower than my actual speed. It's also incorrectly reported Verizon's LTE speed. Either call this a Beta undertaking or start over.
5 ★App is fine, works great, not as chunky as everyone says it is. Does it have mad jelly bean era vibes? Yes. Is it functional and relatively easy to use/streamlined? Yes as well.
3 ★Decent app. Does see when you change from wifi to mobile data, but doesn't see the upstream provider change. This will lead to inaccurate reporting. I'll add more stars when this is fixed.
