Questions & Answers

Q: What is an APK File?

A: Just like Windows (PC) systems use an .exe file for installing software, Android does the same. An APK file is the file format used for installing software on the Android operating system.

Q: If I install an APK from this website, will I be able to update the app from the Play Store?

A: Yes, absolutely. The Play Store installs APKs it downloads from Google's servers, and sideloading from a site like ApkClean.net goes through a very similar process, except you're the one performing the downloading and initiating the installation (sideloading).
As soon as the Play Store finds a version of the app newer than the one you've sideloaded, it will commence an update.

Q: Why ApkClean.net can guarantee APK 100% safe?

A: Whenever someone wants to download an APK file from ApkClean.net, we'll check the corresponding APK file on Google Play and allow user download it directly (of course, we'll cache it on our server). If the APK file does not exist on Google Play, we'll search it in our cache.

Q: What are Android App permissions?

A: Apps require access to certain systems within your device. When you install an application, you are notified of all of the permissions required to run that application.

User's Reivew

1 ★I signed up and paid for a subscription but still couldn't access articles. I contacted The Star immediately but did not hear back for several days. At that point I was so frustrated that I phoned the number they provided and insisted they cancel my subscription. Word of advice to The Star. If you are going to start charging for subscriptions, it is good customer service to ensure that your IT is working properly before taking your customer's money. From a former Star paperboy in the 70s
2 ★The Star has severely missed the mark with their commercial model. Asking consumers to pay $20/month to access a single source of information in 2019 is a recipe for failure. Especially considering most consumers no longer want a hard copy paper delivered to their home. If this is in fact what is needed to sustain the Toronto Star, perhaps it is no longer a viable business. At this cost, I will be looking elsewhere for local news content and continue to use the BBC for global content.
1 ★19.99 is just plain crazy. Used to read this daily, now will just delete it. When the price becomes reasonable I will subscribe. Washington Post is only $10. Globe did a one year special for less than $7 month. That's reasonable. Not paying $20 for a handful of stories per day. Rip off.
3 ★One of the most important features missing from this app is the ability to subscribe to news categories and be able to set up push notifications (e.g. News you should know, daily) within the app. The only way to get notified about news stories is to subscribe to newsletters through the Star website and have it send you emails which link you to articles on the website. This renders the app pretty useless. If you want to drive people to use the app, then notify and direct them to the app!
3 ★Good app overall but there are two issues I've noticed that can make using the app frustrating. Sometimes scrolling will freeze on an article and sometimes part way through an article, an ad will load while you're reading and change your reading position. I wanted to update my review in response to the developer's response. The app doesn't crash. It just appears to freeze and if I wait maybe 5-10 seconds, it lets me scroll again. I'd be happy to work with the developer to fix the issue.
2 ★Was good. Now not. Buggy & crashes regularly/randomly since ramp-up to paid version. Slow & jittery. Ads play w/o ability to mute - VERY annoying. Chose National as location on latest version. Today, due to slow response time accidentally changed to Toronto & can't change back. National isn't an option once inside the app. Why would anyone pay for this? Give me back Star Touch.
3 ★torstar is one of the best papers in the emaciated canadian market. however this app is little more than a set of style sheets. also, i have a paid subscription and yet i still see flickering garbage ads at the bottom of every page. i wont be renewing my subscription because the canadian govt is now subsidising enterprises like this, which allows them to unfairly compete with the tiny startup news ops theyve created by laying off so many great journalists. those folks will now get my money.
1 ★It's annoying to have to sign in each time I open the app. Eventually, I have to sign back in between each article I read, until it starts to log me out before I can even read the article and doesn't even give me the option to sign in and i have to uninstall and reinstall the app. I have a paid subscription because I want to support quality journalism, but this is too much of a hassle.
3 ★the app is great but there's some bugs. My Dad gets signed out automatically somehow and he's not technical at all and has problems figuring out what happened. Also, after I sign into my paid unlimited access account it keeps asking me if I want to sign up for the digital access subscription I already have.
1 ★The content of the articles isn't worth the money they are charging. I get the same content for free through other apps and online sources. Putting up a pay wall like this is a bad idea. The world is full of news stories - most of them free to read. Why would anyone pay for biased ok written articles at the Toronto Star when they can just download the City News or CBC app for much of the same content? Update - high quality?
5 ★Updated review - developer reached out, app has been updated again and now it works well. Very happy! No longer works on my (year-old) phone. Wasn't happy with new generic all-white layout recently implemented, but quality of journalism overrode that. Now can't even make use of my digital subscription on phone. Disappointing
3 ★Size chart for US/Can seems wrong as it shows EU size and not the Can. size properly? A size large in Canada is usually '42'.
