Look at the advantages that BackCountry Navigator XE brings to the table.

We have a variety of both worldwide and country specific maps that can be downloaded for offline use based on a yearly membership. Bronze membership to use most maps. Silver membership to also use slope shaded topo maps of the US, plus US Forest Service maps. Gold membership to also use Accuterra Maps, with new, readable maps of the US and the World, plus BackRoads MapBook Basemap in Canada.
Vector Topo Maps for the World The default map, BackCountry World map, is a set of Vector topo maps for the world. Vector tiled maps hold the promise of crisp multilevel detail, with the ability to download large chunks of the earth's surface in a quick, compact operation. The BackCountry topo map for the world can be viewed in this app and on bcnavxe.com, with an easy process to install them in large blocks.
GPS Navigation Using GPS in a modern day smartphone, see your position on a moving offline map. Find your way to waypoints you mark on the map or create from entering coordinates into the search bar.
Planning In The Cloud The website bcnavxe.com is the web interface for BackCountry Navigator XE. With it you can plot points, routes, and boundaries for trips, and download them on demand in the mobile app. You can push trips created in the mobile app to the cloud as well for reviewing or sharing.

A: Just like Windows (PC) systems use an .exe file for installing software, Android does the same. An APK file is the file format used for installing software on the Android operating system.
Q: If I install an APK from this website, will I be able to update the app from the Play Store?
A: Yes, absolutely. The Play Store installs APKs it downloads from Google's servers, and sideloading from a site like ApkClean.net goes through a very similar process, except you're the one performing the downloading and initiating the installation (sideloading). As soon as the Play Store finds a version of the app newer than the one you've sideloaded, it will commence an update.
Q: Why ApkClean.net can guarantee APK 100% safe?
A: Whenever someone wants to download an APK file from ApkClean.net, we'll check the corresponding APK file on Google Play and allow user download it directly (of course, we'll cache it on our server). If the APK file does not exist on Google Play, we'll search it in our cache.
Q: What are Android App permissions?
A: Apps require access to certain systems within your device. When you install an application, you are notified of all of the permissions required to run that application.

5 ★I have been using the app for about a year on my Samsung 4. Works great! For practice I have been mapping out a large privately owned forest behind our property. I've drawn in property lines and buildings along with dozens of trails with comments about property sizes and ownership. Been good practice and loads of fun putting it all together.
5 ★Highly entertaining! I can't put it down!
1 ★I decided to try the Gold membership level, $30 a year seems reasonable it's what I pay for OnX premium. However upon playing around with the app I find that I now need to buy "addons" just to get the same functionality that I have with OnX. Several addons in fact. If I'm paying a $30 annual subscription do not then nickle and dime me with $8.00 "addons." Also the app requires you to give it access to your location "all the time" as opposed to "only while using the app". All of the other mapping apps I use work just fine with "only while using the app." No app needs to know my location "all the time." In response to CritterMap regarding location permission "all the time." I have checked the other maps apps I use, OnX, US Topo Pro, Gaia, All Trails. On my device they are all set to "only while using the app" All of them function and give me my location. Backcountry however will not even give me my current location unless I set location permission to "all the time" if I try it set to "only while using app" a pop-up comes up saying I need to give it "all the time" permission. Again this is clearly unnecessary since the other apps can do it just fine with "only while using the app" permissions.
5 ★I've had BackCountry Navigator for several years, going back to the original version. I currently have an HTC U11 (Android 9) and I used the app on earlier HTC phones. The app works fine. I did not observe the startup problem some noted because I had not used the app recently. But with the latest update to ver. 1.8.5 (2-17), the app works fine for me.
5 ★I was introduced to BackCountry Navigator 5 years ago I purchased Pro and even though a few bugs the program served me well. When offered to get on XE early I jumped on the opportunity. I could see the potential but became doubtful as the development took way long then I had anticipated. Eventually I found myself able to use XE favorably over PRO. There is a learning curve but many great features are available that were not possible before. I have now gone 100% with XE after importing all my tracks from Pro. The online or cloud feature has been handy fro marking out trails before an adventure. Overall very pleased and look forward to many more great improvements.
5 ★Love this app! Rarely use my Garman handheld GPS any more as this app makes it obsolete. Love all the map options and ability to plan and up/down load trips on my computer and then share to my phone. Even bought a tablet just for this app to use while driving back roads in my 4x4. If you want a turn by turn driving app, this is not for you, but if you hike, bike, hunt, offroad, heck any type of outdoor activity, need topo lines, want to know public land boundaries, then this app is for you!
5 ★I can easily use the app or web interfaces to choose map locations where I plan to visit, or review data (tracks, waypoints, more...) from previous trips. The app's map visuals, topographic data, and tools allow me to better plan trips and reference info prior to and during OFFLINE trip experiences--this is invaluable! The developer is dedicated, professional, and involved in the customer base and their feedback. It is running great on my Google Pixel 4XL and Google Slate (tablet/chromebook).
5 ★OMG ! Finally a good program! Great for scientists. Tracks movement accurately. Download maps for offline use easily, much easier than original BCN, and the other, similar programs. $20 / yr subscription fee (optional) is so worth it. Best parts: 1.work in Google Earth and EASILY move files to this program, 2. Add lines and data while in the field, 3. Clean User Interface, and an actual Help File that helps. So much more to say... 5 Stars.
5 ★I have used this App on my phone and my tablet for several years now. It is easy to save maps for offline use, so I have maps even when out of cell tower or internet coverage. I am a member of Lane County Search and Rescue and use BackCountry Navigator XE as a backup to my GPS so I always have a track of my search aera. I am also a member of a volunteer trail crew and use this app to record our trail clearing progress along a trail so I can download the information onto a map that I can share with other members of the trail crew. The many different maps available for download and saving are a real advantage of this App.
5 ★I'm yet another satisfied user!! I've been using the app for a couple of years now (BCN Pro first and now XE). This is my go to app for all of my back country adventures. Love the new Web interface for XE. It's great to be able to plan a trip on the computer and then have it all on the tablet. Another great feature is being able to use the app off-line. Can't say enough about how great this app is.
5 ★I have used the original BackCountry Navigator Pro for many years and found it to be a great tool. I started using BackCountry Navigator XE as soon as it became available because of the vector based maps that it makes available. Both of these apps are still my favorites. I use them for hiking, climbing and backpacking as well as for maps when jeeping in the mountains. I also have experience and use Gaia and AllTrails but I really prefer the maps and interface of BackCountry Navgator XE. Having the option of uploading and viewing tracks on the website is also very useful. I have used the programs on 4 different Samsung phones and and LG and have never experiences any issues or crashes.
3 ★I am struggling to break out of being a 'beginning user' of this app. I started with MotionX, then went to an Android phone and BackCountry Navigator, so I have some experience.I use it mostly for day hikes in new areas near or in National Forests in the Colo mtns. I was one of the Beta testers of this XE and I don't think that worked out for me or Backcountry Navigator. Every new process I try to learn is way harder than I expect it will be. I have learned a few things about base maps with all the stumbling around. It seems that the last great series of maps was the USGS 24000 topo quads during the photo revision era before maps were digital. Now there are a plethora of choices and not one is as thorough, accurate and readable as those pre-digital maps. Yes they are still available, but now they are out of date. It seems most practical to forget their outstanding quality and move along to the new world of custom maps where no one map has all the info you would want. The 2016-2019 versions of the USGS 24000 topo quads disappoint consistently. Missing roads, utility lines, trails all kinds of things shown on the pre-digital maps. Some day these digital maps will be definitively superior, but I haven't seen it yet. Still trying to become proficient with XE. The emails from Nathan have really helped keep me connected to this product. I wish other app creators would copy this excellent follow up service.
