「天皇陵ナビ」は、全国各地に散らばる天皇陵の詳細データや各天皇の事績を解説し、さらに位置情報を提供するアプリです。天皇陵（てんのうりょう）とは、天皇の墓です。皇室典範第27条により、天皇・皇后・皇太后・太皇太后を葬る所を陵（みささぎ／りょう）と定めており、うち天皇を葬った墓を「天皇陵」と呼びます。
有史以来崩御された天皇は127人です。最後に崩御された昭和天皇が124代ですが、北朝の天皇である光厳、光明、崇光、後光厳、後円融天皇の5人を加え、一方で「重祚（一度退位した天皇が再び即位すること）」である35代の皇極天皇と37代の斉明天皇、46代孝謙天皇と48代称徳天皇は同一人なので2人を減ずることで、合計は127人となります。
さて、日本各地にある天皇陵には、それぞれ「御陵印」という独自の印が用意され、誰でも押印することができます。しかし崩御した天皇の数だけ天皇陵があり、天皇陵の数だけ御陵印があるかというと、そうではありません。まず、複数の天皇を合葬した陵（深草北陵が月輪陵など）が数多くあり、天皇陵の数は実際の天皇の数よりかなり少なくなっています。合葬陵には一つの御陵印しかありません。そして北朝の2代 光明天皇と3代 崇光天皇には御陵印がありません。さらに、陵が隣合った場所にあるため一つの印を共用している例もあります。そうした理由で、御陵印の数は天皇の合計数よりもかなり少なく、全部で93個となっています。
