O Jornal Cabeço Negro circulou pela primeira vez em janeiro do ano 2000 com a intenção de divulgar a cultura apiunense e suas conquistas.Seu nome tem origem no nome Apiúna - nome indígena (Botocuda) que tem por significado: cume de montanha arredondado em forma de cabeça (cabeço) e escuro (negro).
Após cinco anos foi transformado em um jornal comercial de propriedade da See Editoração de Jornais Ltda - Me, e em janeiro de 2007 foi registrado junto ao cartório de registros da comarca de Ascurra, sendo o único veículo de comunicação impressa registrado pertencente a Apiúna. Em pouco tempo transformou-se em um ícone de veracidade em suas informações, um símbolo de credibilidade.
Tem como público alvo jovens e adultos que buscam informações locais e regionais das cidades de Apiúna, Ascurra e microrregião.
