Sayyidina Anas bertanya kepada Sayyidina Zaid, ‘Berapa lamanya antara azan (Subuh) dengan waktu makan sahur itu?’ Dia menjawab, ‘Sepadan dengan waktu yang dibutuhkan untuk membaca 50 ayat.’”Hadis ini menunjukkan bahwa jarak atau interval waktu antara bersahurnya Rasul saw. dan azan Subuh adalah kira-kira 50 ayat. Itu artinya Rasul saw. tidak lagi makan sahur sampai berkumandangnya azan subuh. Pada redaksional hadis disebutkan secara jelas bahwa Rasul saw. bersahur dan berhenti kira-kira waktu yang dibutuhkan untuk membaca 50 ayat Alquran sebelum masuk waktu subuh. Inilah yang dipahami oleh para ulama kita, sehingga menetapkan sunnah berimsak sekitar waktu yang dibutuhkan untuk pembaca 50 ayat Alquran tersebut yang diperkirakan setara dengan 10–15 menit.
