Description
Il Parco Archeologico di Occhiolà, istituito nel 1997, rovine dell’antico borgo distrutto dal terremoto del 1693, che devastò l’intera Sicilia orientale erase completamente al suolo il borgo di Occhiolà. Il principe Carlo Maria Carafa Branciforti, signore di Occhiolà, resosi conto che non sarebbe stato possibile ricostruire una nuova città sulle ceneri di quella distrutta dal sisma, decise di rifondare il centro urbano, dandogli il nome di Grammichele, più a sud, su una zona pianeggiante. Sulle colline di Occhiolà, a partire da quel momento, il tempo e la storia sigillarono intatta una complessa stratificazione archeologica che si sviluppa dall'età preistorica sino al 1693.Il Parco Archeologico di Occhiolà è strutturato al suo interno in percorsi di visita differenziati (anche per i disabili) che rendono fruibili ed integrano tutti i beni archeologici, storici, ambientali e paesaggistici. Itinerari sostenuti da attrezzate aree di accoglienza, ristoro e documentazione a supporto di una visita al parco confortevole ed emozionante. Le attività di animazione e le mostre temporanee organizzate in appositi spazi, assieme alla gastronomia tipica e alle tradizioni culturali riproposte in loco, sono fonte di continuo interesse e novità per i visitatori del parco.
