臺中在近代藝術和文化史上有著重要的地位和特殊的氣息，無論在文學、美術、音樂、教育等各層面都有不同於北部和南部的發展。
「美的覺醒」特展企圖延展亞洲大學在地的關心，梳理中部地區美術教育發展的脈絡，回顧日治時期至近代，臺中前輩藝術家們彼此切磋交遊及對於臺灣藝術發展走向的影響力。
本展邀集七位具代表性之藝術家作品，希冀透過多元媒材的呈現和創作的思考，回顧藝術家們無論在自身修為和創作道路上的「覺醒」，奠定中部地區在臺灣美術發展上的重要地位。
