Sebelum diluncurkan radio merangin.fm dihadapan anda selaku pendengar setia, juga sudah pernah hadir radio prekwensi di Jam Gento Bangko sebelum di renovasi oleh Pemerintah Kabupaten Merangin pada tahun anggaran 2015.Radio frekwensi yang di kelola Bagian Humas Sekretariat Daerah Kabupaten Merangin bernama Radio Suara Merangin (RSM) dan tidak lagi mengudara lagi sejak tahun 2013.
Dengan semangat untuk menghadirkan kembali radio dihadapan pendengar setia di Kabupaten Merangin dan salah satu ajang untuk menyampaikan informasi kepada publik, maka pada perubahan anggaran tahun 2019 Dinas Komunikasi dan Informatika Kabupaten membuat radio streaming dengan domain merangin.fm.
Setelah di setting oleh teknisi handal dan profesional, maka radio merangin.fm mulai mengudara pada hari Minggu tanggal 22 Desember 2019 yang juga bertepatan Hari Ulang Tahun (HUT) Kabupaten Merangin Ke-72 Tahun 2019. Berbekal peralatan dan studio seadanya crew merangin.fm telah melakukan siara langsung atau live sidang Paripurna DPRD Kabupaten Merangin yang dipimpin Ketua DPRD Merangin H. Herman Effendi, ST, MM dan dihadiri Gubernur Jambi H. Fahrori Umar dan Bupati Merangin Dr. H Al Haris, S Sos, MH.
