میرزا محمّدعلی که امروز ما او را با نام "صائب تبريزی" می شناسیم، در اواخر هزاره ی نخست هجری قمری، حوالی سال های 970 در شهر اصفهان زاده شد.او از خانواده ی بازرگانان تبریزی بود که به دستور شاه عباس اول صفووی از تبریز به اصفهان کوچ کرده، در محله ی عباس آباد آن شهر که ساکنانش اغلب از مهاجران تبریزی بودند، ساکن شده بودند.
میرزا محمد علی در اصفهان دانش آموخت و در جوانی راهی حج شد و از آن جا به مشهد و از آن جا به هرات و کابل و هندوستان رفت و بیش تر دوران میانسالی اش را در هندوستان سپری کرد.
او در سال های میانی نخستین قرن از هزاره ی دوم هجری قمری حوالی سال های 1040 به ایران بازگشت و ساکن اصفهان شد و از شاه عباس دوم صفوی لقب ملک اشعرایی گرفت.
صائب در هشتاد سالگی در شهر زادگاهش اصفهان درگدشت و جسمش در محلیه لبنان، خیابان صائب امروزی ، به خاک سپرده شد.
از صائب تبریزی شعرهای زیادی به دست ما رسیده است. او غزل سرا بود و چندین غزل به زبان ترکی نیز سروده است. شیوه ی شاعری صائب را سبک هندی خوانده اند و او را خدای این سبک می دانند.
و مهم تر این که صائب شاعر تک بیت ها هم هست.
