الاغ کوچولو سال ها كار كرده بود. هر روز او را به گاري كوچك بسته بودند. گاري را پر از چيز هاي مختلف كرده بودند و سورچي گاري را رانده بود. سورچي هميشه روي نیمکت ای مي نشست كه تشكچه قرمز داشت. بعضي وقت ها آن ها به شهر مي رفتند و سري به بازار مي زدند گاهي به يكي از دهكده هاي اطراف مي رفتند تا در مراسم عروسي شركت كنند و گاهي هم به مراسم عزاداري مي رفتند. الاغ كوچولوي روزهاي ديگر هفته هم خوشحال بود چون به مزرعه مي رفت غذا مي برد با ميوه و سبزي مي آورد.الاغ كوچولو صداي ساز و آواز را در روزهاي جشن صداي ناقوس را در روزهاي تعطيل و صداي خنده را خيلي دوست داشت. از بوي ميوه هاي توي سبد و گفتگوي كساني كه از مزرعه بر مي گشتند هم خوشش مي آمد.
الاغ كوچولو به خوبي و خوشي زندگي مي كرد تا روزي كه ارباب مزرعه ی روفينياك يك ماشين خريد. ماشيني پر قدرت كه به همه كارها مي رسيد و جاي الاغ كوچولو را مي گرفت.
