Javna ustanova "Služba za zapošljavanje Kantona Sarajevo" ima javna ovlaštenja u pogledu donošenja općih akata, rješavanja o pravima radnika za vrijeme privremene nezaposlenosti, javnih evidencija i izdavanja uvjerenja u vezi sa nezaposlenošću.Djelatnost Javne ustanove "Služba za zapošljavnje Kantona Sarajevo" određena je Zakonom o posredovanju u zapošljavanju i socijalnoj sigurnosti nezaposlenih osoba (2001. godina) i Zakonom o izmjenama i dopunama Zakona o posredovanju u zapošljavanju i socijalnoj sigurnosti nezaposlenih osoba (2005. i 2008. godina), te Zakonom o posredovanju u zapošljavanju i socijalnoj sigurnosti nezaposlenih osoba u Kantonu Sarajevo (2004. godina).
