Ao longo dos últimos anos, a demanda por diretrizes técnicas específicas para o setor agrícola mundial cresceu consideravelmente. Assim, o WRI Brasil, com apoio da Embrapa, criou uma ferramenta de cálculo para medir e gerir de forma mais efetiva as emissões de gás de efeito estufa para o setor agropecuário do Brasil, o GHG Protocolo Agropecuário, compatível com outros protocolos internacionalmente aceitos para o desenvolvimento de inventários corporativos de GEE como a norma ISO 14.064 e com os métodos de quantificação do Painel Intergovernamental de Mudanças Climáticas (IPCC).A presente ferramenta permite o cálculo das emissões de GEE da pecuária utilizando metodologias específicas para a realidade brasileira e possibilita aos produtores, assim como as empresas das cadeias de valor da agropecuária, identificar as oportunidades para aumentar a produtividade a partir das técnicas de baixo carbono, aumentar a resiliência climática dos seus sistemas produtivos, e ao mesmo tempo monitorar e rastrear o progresso em direção de estabelecer e acompanhar metas de redução de emissão, comunicar os resultados aos investidores e aos consumidores finais, e responder às demandas nacionais e internacionais por produtos mais sustentáveis.
