Description
The big idea is to reduce food waste while helping consumers combat the increasing costs of living in Kuala Lumpur. The deals on this app are NOW LIVE!!!!This is experiment allows users to view locations and details of supermarkets and restaurants in Kuala Lumpur and deals on surplus food with a short shelf life. It also allows restaurants or supermarkets to enter deals/offers on produce which they wish to sell fast.
The following is the hypothetical use case:
1. Restaurants: especially bakeries, cold press juice places, Japanese restaurants etc, have a lot of produce that has to be sold fast, as they do not follow 'a la minute'. Typically a bakery which has x pastries left over will try to sell its produce at a discount closer to expiry--e.g. 50% off after 9pm. etc. This is so they can reduce waste and capture a bit of revenue on produce that would otherwise be wasted. However these offers are not publicized and consumers have to be physically at the restaurant to see what if on offer.
2.Supermarkets: typically have whole shelves of goods which are about to expire, and are offered at substantial discounts. However, consumers have to be physically at the supermarkets to see what is on offer at the particular supermarket.
Love Preserve aims to make it easier for restaurants and supermarkets to put up these deals, and consumers to view these type of deals in real time.
Love Preserve seeks to reduce food waste while allowing consumers access to food at lower prices.
I am very new to Android development and this project was built in a few months in my spare time. Obviously there is still room for improvement and there are still some bugs/issues. Any feedback is greatly appreciated. :)
