Description
Onkyo Controller is the official Onkyo remote control application that allows users to conveniently operate compatible Onkyo network products from their Android handset.The intuitive, user-friendly interface makes it easy to get more from your AV home entertainment experience.
Main functions that can be operated through this application.
(1) Play music in each room or every room
- Lets you play music from music streaming services such as Pandora, Spotify, DEEZER and TIDAL, your music library on your smart device, or your NAS drive on compatible products.
- You can play your music via radio, Bluetooth and USB.
(2) Remote control functions
- You can operate general control functions (play/stop, control the volume, select the input source, etc.) from your smartphone.
(3) Operation of connected product（home theater product such as AV amplifier）
- Lets you control a Blu-Ray Disc player or TV that is connected to an AV amplifier or home theater product via HDMI.
(4) Dirac Live-enabled products measure automatic sound field correction. In addition, filters can be edited.
(5) Audio/Video formats of input and output can also be checked.
*By setting the “Network Standby” menu item in the unit’s initial settings to ON, you can use this application to turn on the power of the unit.

・Why the device's location is needed? Answer: In order to set-up your wireless devices which are located around you, the access point information such as SSID is needed. There is no other purpose to use the information of the device’s location.
・When updating from ver. 2.x, customized settings are not inherited except for Dirac measurement results.

2 ★Won't connect to my RZ740 after recent update any help?
1 ★Sometimes it works, most of the time it doesn't. Have been able to use this app/bluetooth/wifi maybe twice in the past year. 95% of the time I have to reconfigure every time I want to use it. The receiver does not automatically update, try using blootooth and it shows it is connected but rarely plays, chrome cast has never worked. Absolute nightmare.
5 ★Not sure why all the negative reviews. I've installed this app and think it's great. I have a TX-L50 av receiver. I can do lots of things now from my mobile phone screen instead of having to switch on the television to view the tv screen. With the app I can change source, change volume, pick a music album from a usb device (very small usb device, permanently plugged into front of unit), pick music from a usb device on my router (network attached storage), go to TuneIn and listen to radio stations around the world, etc. Album art is displayed on the mobile phone in the app, even for .wav files if a .jpg picture resides in the same album folder. Premium music services can also be picked from the mobile phone screen. I did notice though Amazon Music (i.e. not music available through Amazon Prime) has to be paid for - nothing to do with Onkyo though. Chromecast is supported and I can also cast music from my mobile to the receiver using the app.
1 ★Until recently the app was quite reliable. However, despite, updating devices, firmware etc. The app crashes repeatedly and I don't believe there is a problem with the Onkyo RN855 that it is controlling. No sign of an update so feel a bit "lost at sea".
2 ★Very basic UI. I use it for Tidal but it seems to have run out of space in the artists folder at the letter T so need to use search function for artists after that. Also there is no sort function - everything alphabetical. The album folder only displays the title, not the artist. A bit annoying to say the least.
1 ★Everytime I use this app to switch sources I have to unplug the reviever. It works great as long as I don't switch source. When I do I lose all audio output. The only way to get it back is to physical unplug the reviever.
1 ★This app constantly fails to control my supported Onkyo receiver which results in having to unplug and then re-plug the power to the receiver. This has been happening for over 1year. Now the app won't even load. Onkyo needs to hire someone who know how to create a working app.
1 ★Stopped working. Select the app and as soon as it opens it shuts down. Reloaded from playstore and selected open once loaded, same result. Evidently not compatible with the latest updates since I've had good luck in the past. Onkyo TX-RZ630
1 ★Firstly if you don't already own an Onkyo amp then don't buy one because of this terrible app. The moment you bring up another app then go back to the Onkyo app it always has to reconnect! Also, the volume control should be visible at all times.
1 ★As of June 10, 2020 the app crashes every time I start it on my Pixel 4XL with the June update. Rebooted the phone, my router, unplugged the receivers, uninstalled and reinstalled the app and nothing seems to fix it.

4 ★Despite the negative reviews from users, this app works exactly as advertised. The real problem lies with the receivers or amps it is controlling. I discovered that the most expeditious way to get the app back to functionality was to unplug the receiver. Apparently, when the receiver is in standby, it's not resetting whatever buffer is used to play music from internet, network, or bluetooth sources. Only a hard shutdown will do the trick. Some food for thought.
