Son nom : Abou al Hussayn Mouslim ibn al Hajjàj ibn Mouslim ibn Ward an Naysàbùri était originaire d'une tribu arabe d'où est tiré son nom de famille : Al Quchayri. Quant à An Naysàbùri c'est un dérivé du nom de son pays de séjour, le Nichapour, une grande cité du Khorassan. Sa date de naissance, incertaine, se situe autour de 204 ou 206 de l'hégire.
Son enfance : Le milieu où il a été élevé lui a facilité l'apprentissage de la science utile. En effet, le Nichapour était un pays animé par les sciences de la loi islamique. On y trouvait de nombreux enseignants et étudiants. Son père était parmi ceux qui s'intéressaient à la science et c'est probablement lui qui l’a encouragé dans ce chemin. Dés l'âge de 12 ans (ou 14 ans) il participait aux séances de Hadith.
Deux ans plus tard, à l'occasion de son pèlerinage (il était encore un garçon imberbe), il rencontra les savants de la Mecque ainsi que d'autres savants alors qu'il était sur la route du voyage. Il entreprit de nombreux voyages (autour du Khorassan, en Irak, au Hidjaz, dans le Châm, en Egypte ...) en quête de Hadith à cause de la dispersion des transmetteurs.
Sa fin : Mouslim, Qu’Allah lui fasse miséricorde, s'est éteint dans la soirée du dimanche au mois de Rajab en l'an 261 de l'hégire dans le pays du Nichapour. Il était âgé de 50 et quelques années. Prions qu'Allah lui accorde Sa miséricorde et Sa satisfaction.
