Description
It all started when I watched a documentary about Andy Warhol and his portraits a few years ago. His fantasy of completely covering museum walls with portraits did not happen in his lifetime.I decided to accomplish that idea myself. With the support of the de Saisset Museum and Rebecca M. Schapp, it took me two years of the hardest work to accomplish seventy-two portraits, which were displayed in the major museum show FACE in 2013.
I got so involved and interested in painting the human face that I continued the project for another four years. The size of the artwork changed to include some gigantic images . . . images started “doubling” in their appearance . . . and today I am pleased to present a 320-page book with 150 portraits as a report of the time spent.
A most remarkable experience has been working with the company Nostromo, whose app brings the book-reading experience to a previously unknown, amazing level.
This is one of the first art books in the world that can be transformed from a book into a movie theater. Just download the app PopovFACE and point your smart phone at the cover of the book. You will see a documentary by Celik Kayalar and talks by Valentin Popov, publisher Charlie Winton, Dale Djerassi, and many other participants in this project.
With this app, I can see a future for art books that will include tours of museums, meetings with artists, and visits to artists’ studios.
