Description

Use Microsoft Authenticator for easy, secure sign-ins for all your online accounts using multi-factor authentication, passwordless, or password autofill. You also have additional account management options for your Microsoft personal, work or school accounts.

Getting started with multi-factor authentication
Multi factor authentication (MFA) or two factor authentication (2FA) provides a second layer of security. When logging in with multi-factor authentication, you’ll enter your password, and then you’ll be asked for an additional way to prove it’s really you. Either approve the notification sent to the Microsoft Authenticator, or enter the one-time password (OTP) generated by the app. The one-time passwords (OTP codes) have a 30 second timer counting down. This timer is so you never have to use the same time-based one-time password (TOTP) twice and you don’t have to remember the number. The one-time password (OTP) doesn’t require you to be connected to a network, and it won’t drain your battery. You can add multiple accounts to your app, including non-Microsoft accounts like Facebook, Amazon, Dropbox, Google, LinkedIn, GitHub, and more.

Getting started with passwordless
Use your phone, not your password, to log into your Microsoft account. Just enter your username, then approve the notification sent to your phone. Your fingerprint, face ID, or PIN will provide a second layer of security in this two-step verification process. After you’ve signed in with two factor authentication (2FA), you’ll have access to all your Microsoft products and services, such as Outlook, OneDrive, Office, and more.

Getting started with autofill
Microsoft Authenticator app can also autofill passwords for you. Sign-in on the Passwords tab inside the Authenticator app with your personal Microsoft account to start syncing passwords, including the passwords saved in Microsoft Edge. Make Microsoft Authenticator the default autofill provider and start autofilling passwords on apps and sites you visit on your mobile. Your passwords are protected with multi-factor authentication in the app. You will need to prove yourself with your fingerprint, face ID, or PIN to access and autofill passwords on your mobile. You can also import passwords from Google Chrome and other password managers.

Microsoft personal, work or school accounts
Sometimes your work or school might ask you to install the Microsoft Authenticator when accessing certain files, emails, or apps. You will need to register your device to your organization through the app and add your work or school account. Microsoft Authenticator also supports cert-based authentication by issuing a certificate on your device. This will let your organization know that the sign-in request is coming from a trusted device and help you seamlessly and securely access additional Microsoft apps and services without needing to log into each. Because Microsoft Authenticator supports single sign-on, once you have proven your identity once, you will not need to log in again to other Microsoft apps on your device.

Optional Access permissions:
Microsoft Authenticator includes the following optional access permissions. All these require user consent. If you choose to not grant these optional access permissions, you can still use Microsoft Authenticator for other services that do not require such permission. For more information see https://aka.ms/authappfaq
Accessibility Service: Used to optionally support Autofill on more apps and sites.
Location: Sometimes your organization wants to know your location before allowing you to access certain resources. The app will request this permission only if your organization has a policy requiring location.
Camera: Used to scan QR codes when you add a work, school, or non-Microsoft account.
Read the contents of your storage: This permission is only used when you report a technical problem through the app settings. Some information from your storage is collected to diagnose the issue.

Questions & Answers

Q: What is an APK File?

A: Just like Windows (PC) systems use an .exe file for installing software, Android does the same. An APK file is the file format used for installing software on the Android operating system.

Q: If I install an APK from this website, will I be able to update the app from the Play Store?

A: Yes, absolutely. The Play Store installs APKs it downloads from Google's servers, and sideloading from a site like ApkClean.net goes through a very similar process, except you're the one performing the downloading and initiating the installation (sideloading).
As soon as the Play Store finds a version of the app newer than the one you've sideloaded, it will commence an update.

Q: Why ApkClean.net can guarantee APK 100% safe?

A: Whenever someone wants to download an APK file from ApkClean.net, we'll check the corresponding APK file on Google Play and allow user download it directly (of course, we'll cache it on our server). If the APK file does not exist on Google Play, we'll search it in our cache.

Q: What are Android App permissions?

A: Apps require access to certain systems within your device. When you install an application, you are notified of all of the permissions required to run that application.

User's Reivew

1 ★Fine until you change phone. This worked great, but once I got a new phone, it refuses to accept my password and I cannot access it. Fortunately, I have a secondary back up for my emails, otherwise this app would have locked me out, with no way of getting back in. Overall, this is a dangerous app as it gives MSN more control over your accounts than you have. Would not recommend. Regret having used it.
1 ★This app takes the relatively straight forward act of opening an email and turns it in to a crisis of epic proportions. Most importantly, it requires the user to go through an install prompt every time to use it, from which it gets stuck in a loop. [More information required}>> [Install App].. [More information Required] and repeat. Even if it is successful, it goes through this endless process. There are no sufficient words to describe the frustration I feel when forced to use this program.
1 ★Hasn't worked right since day 1. Doesn't synch with my accounts on my computer. Shows me a code, but when I enter it in my computer, Outlook says "You didn't enter the expected verification code". It also doesn't let me switch between accounts. Others I know have the same problem and are equally frustrated with having to pay for a system that doesn't work or that takes an IT expert to figure out (and I'm more computer savvy than most people).
2 ★I'm not going to lie to you whenever I say that this is the most infuriating thing Microsoft has done in a hot minute. I'm not really sure what they're trying to do as far as to wait authentication but this was a struggle especially since my work uses go daddy as a platform for Outlook to work through and this thing damn near made it impossible to get my email on my phone...
2 ★Working with google on my phone alongside Microsoft which my school requires, i understand security, love security, authenticator is a great assist when it works and is not lagging up to couple minutes at times, plus states I do not have Microsoft account at times which is very annoying and is uncalled for. Microsoft I understand your contractor shortages, sub-c shortages, or just someone to test updates (i hope against live information) Everyone is hurting for money, things are expensive.
1 ★This is far and away the worst experience I've ever had with a Microsoft product. Forcing all 365 users to utilize a confusing and poorly designed app to log into their account is disastrous to productivity for people on the move constantly using different devices. This is so bad I'm considering moving our office totally off of Microsoft 365 to another email solution.
1 ★Literally the worst experience. I have a deadline to complete onboarding forms for my new job, but I can't login to my account because they require this authentication app to login. Unfortunately, no notification goes to my phone. The app just sits there uselessy while my computer tells me it has sent a code to my authentication app. This is such a ridiculous app. Why can't they verify through email. This app is a nightmare.
3 ★It's a bit confusing when I receive a response from Microsoft and then I get a request from authenticator it appears to be in a loop that's faster than my brain and a missed key stroke can lead to "password change? Can't use multi window, etc. " until I realized that the text from authenticator was where I..... was to input. I think. I like the idea that I will be a Trusted person, I thought it would be easier to understand. I'm computer impaired and I need to learn.
5 ★Works, easy to use. Ease of use is superior to similar apps, "Google Authenticator"and "Symantec VIP." I'm not an expert in security, IMO in terms of security, Symantec offers a strict and complicated solution. However, I don't feel it results in better protection. If your device is lost stolen or compromised and someone can gain access, then both solutions fail the same. Google Authenticator app I have had no success in setting up.
1 ★I am so sick and tired of authenticator not doing what it is supposed to. One of its main features is to autofill usernames and passwords and 90% of the time it refuses to even acknowledge it. That would be fine if I knew it was just the app I was trying to log into refusing to let authenticator autofill but sometimes it works sometimes it doesn't on those apps which is the problem.
1 ★I have had nothing but problems with this app. It is always a pain to use and forget signing in on a new device. This app has not only messed me up on my phone but is now preventing me from using things on my computer. It makes it extremely hard to authenticate anything when I'm either waiting on a 30 day list to get back into my account. I wish I could give it 0 stars for not operating properly.
3 ★My biggest issue with the app is it requires me to either use a PIN or biometric to autofill information. In the settings it allows me to turn it off but then when I try to autofill a password it pops up the message "Enabling biometric or PIN ensures only you can use your autofill data." And does not allow me to proceed. It only works if I enable.
