Organized by IASIA/IIAS in collaboration with prestigious Philippines institutions and international organisms, will take place from July 31 to August 4, 2023, at the University of the Philippines Diliman. The conference theme is "Building Better Futures of Governance towards Achieving the SDGs in a VUCA World." The VUCA acronym represents a volatile, uncertain, complex, and ambiguous world, which poses challenges to governments and the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).The UN Secretary-General, António Guterres, emphasized the importance of shaping the future of government amid growing mistrust, conflicts, climate change, socio-economic crises, and the COVID-19 pandemic. The VUCA environment affects public servants, requiring adaptability and digital expertise. Governments need to adopt a positive approach by focusing on vision, understanding, clarity, and agility.
The IASIA 2023 Conference aims to be forward-thinking by exploring experiences from around the world and gaining a better understanding of the possible futures of government and governance in a VUCA world. The conference seeks to address the challenges experienced by governments due to the impact of the VUCA world and highlight positive strategies being planned and implemented to counteract a negative VUCA environment.
