Die Abkürzung RIBES steht für «Rindvieh-Beprobung im Schlachthof». Die RIBES App unterstützt die amtlichen Tierärztinnen und Tierärzte im Schlachthof bei der Probenahme für die Überwachung der Schweizer Rinderpopulation.RIBES zeigt an, ob ein Rind in die Stichprobe gehört. Die RIBES App wurde im Auftrag des Bundesamt für Lebensmittelsicherheit und Veterinärwesen von der Identitas AG entwickelt.
In der Schweiz werden jedes Jahr Stichprobenuntersuchungen auf mehrere Seuchenerreger in der Rinderpopulation durchgeführt. Seit 2018 werden Proben für alle Untersuchungsprogramme bei Rindern (IBR, EBL, BVD und BT) mithilfe von RIBES am Schlachthof genommen.
Der Kerngedanke bei RIBES ist die Erkennung von ausgewählten Rindern oder Rindern von ausgewählten Betrieben anhand von festgelegten Kriterien am Schlachthof. Erhoben werden kann beispielsweise, wie alt die Tiere sind, ob sie Kontakt zu bekannten Virusträgern hatten oder ob sie von Betrieben mit höherem Risiko für das Auftreten einer Tierseuche (Sentinelbetriebe) kommen. Zusätzlich wird die Anzahl der Proben pro Betrieb automatisch kontrolliert.
