基督复临安息日会广大信徒多年以来共同愿望编印统一的《颂赞诗歌》，《颂赞诗歌（新编）》就是基于这个愿望开始的，经过反复的研讨和协商，大家逐步就诗歌的传承、选材和体例等达成了共识。编选工作从2006年3月在北京正式起动，历时近五年的时间，在圣灵的引导下，依靠主所赐的恩惠和能力，克服了重重困难，终于在2011年3月完成了颂赞诗歌的全部（简谱本和线简谱本）的编辑工作。本诗歌集采用线谱简谱并用的方法，以使之应用面更加广泛。本诗歌集共选用诗歌707首，其中长诗歌620首；经文诗歌53首；短歌34首。
