Description
Pada mulanya, Gereja Kristen Indonesia terdiri dari tiga gereja yang terpisah, yaitu:GKI Jawa Timur yang didirikan pada tanggal 22 Februari 1934
GKI Jawa Barat yang didirikan tanggal 24 Maret 1940
GKI Jawa Tengah yang didirikan tanggal 8 Agustus1945
Awalnya, ketiga gereja ini dikenal dengan nama Tiong Hoa Kie Tok Kauw Hwee (THKTKH) yaitu gereja berbahasa Hokian. Gereja THKTKH di Jawa Tengah dan Jawa Timur didirikan oleh Zending dari Belanda (Nederlandsche Zendings Vereeniging) sedangkan di Jawa Barat diawali oleh penemuan sebuah Alkitab berbahasa Melayu oleh Bapak Ang Boen Swie di tahun 1858. Baru pada tanggal 27 Maret 1962, ketiga gereja itu berusaha meleburkan dirinya menjadi satu wadah Sinode Am GKI. Usaha tersebut terwujud dengan ditandai oleh pengikraran satu GKI pada 26 Agustus 1988.
