پیاده‌روی اربعین به حرکت شمار زیادی از مسلمانان شیعه به سمت شهر کربلا، در جنوب بغداد، به منظور جمع شدن همه آن‌ها در چهلمین روز پس از سالگرد شهادت امام حسین (ع) سومین امام شیعیان در واقعه عاشورا گفته می‌شود.پیاده‌روی اربعین در زمان حکومت صدام حسین ممنوع بود. این مراسم میلیونی یکی از قدرتمندترین نماد‌های همبستگی میان جهان تشیع است. در گردهمایی اربعین از جمله گروه‌های مسلمانان شیعه، مسلمانان سنی، مسیحی، ایزدی و دیگر آیین‌ها هم در آن حضور داشته‌اند. این رویداد بزرگترین گردهمایی سالانه مذهبی در جهان است.
