Description

BasicAirData GPS Logger is a simple App for recording your position and your path.
It's a basic and lightweight GPS tracker focused on accuracy, with an eye to power saving.
It works offline (without internet connection), it has NO integrated maps.
This app is very accurate in determining the orthometric height (the altitude above sea level), if you enable EGM96 altitude correction on settings.
You can record all your trips, view them with any installed external viewer, directly from the in-app tracklist, and share them in KML, GPX, and TXT format in many ways.

The app is 100% Free and Open Source.

F.A.Q:
In case of any issue, you may find it helpful to read the frequently asked questions (https://github.com/BasicAirData/GPSLogger/blob/master/readme.md#frequently-asked-questions).

IMPORTANT NOTES:
In GPS Logger the Location is always accessed (started) when the App is in Foreground, and then is kept active also in background. On Android 10+ the app needs the Location permission "only while using the app". It doesn't need the "all the time" permission.
Depending on your Android Version, if you want to run GPS Logger reliably in background, you have to disable ALL the battery optimisations. For example you could verify in Android Settings, Apps, GPS Logger, Battery that the Background Activity is allowed and the Battery Usage is Not Optimised.

Questions & Answers

Q: What is an APK File?

A: Just like Windows (PC) systems use an .exe file for installing software, Android does the same. An APK file is the file format used for installing software on the Android operating system.

Q: If I install an APK from this website, will I be able to update the app from the Play Store?

A: Yes, absolutely. The Play Store installs APKs it downloads from Google's servers, and sideloading from a site like ApkClean.net goes through a very similar process, except you're the one performing the downloading and initiating the installation (sideloading).
As soon as the Play Store finds a version of the app newer than the one you've sideloaded, it will commence an update.

Q: Why ApkClean.net can guarantee APK 100% safe?

A: Whenever someone wants to download an APK file from ApkClean.net, we'll check the corresponding APK file on Google Play and allow user download it directly (of course, we'll cache it on our server). If the APK file does not exist on Google Play, we'll search it in our cache.

Q: What are Android App permissions?

A: Apps require access to certain systems within your device. When you install an application, you are notified of all of the permissions required to run that application.

5 ★Excellent app. Simple, lightweight and provides accurate tracking. Exports tracks in KML and GPX for analysis or mapping in other applications.
4 ★Exactly what I was looking for, a simple light app that records tracks (for exercise and commute optimization purposes, in my case) and export / show them later. BUT ... I have not been able to make it record continuously, it stops recording the moment the screen turns off when I put the phone in my pocket / satchel / lunch bag, even though I have excluded from battery optimization. I am using a Pixel 2XL with Android 11 EDIT: Whoa! Fast support, thanks! I had Location access only while using the app, changed to always and it worked on my commute back. Strangely, it only recorded 30 minutes up to the trip first stop and not the final 10 minutes.
5 ★Brilliant, does everything I need it to. Logs tracks and allows you to set waypoints. Thank you!
4 ★Almost what I need. I want something that can stay on in the background forever and simply log. I can then use the GPS data to locate my photos. What is keeping me from GPS logger is that it can not log slower than once every 3 seconds. To be on all the time, I just need to be able to enter a number here (which will be 20-30 times slower but save a lot of power).
5 ★Absolutely excellent for me so far. I've been able to log a 5 hour journey without so much as a hiccup so far. Plus many 2 hour ones. I just had to disable phones battery saving mode because obviously you don't want the phone to suspend the gps data while you are moving. Overall very happy indeed. I also love that this is open source software.
5 ★Bug : I walk from point A to point B with tracking On. Then I pause the tracking and walk to point C. Here, I start the tracking again and put a placemark. The app draws perfect tracking line between A and B. From point B to C it draws an imaginary straight line. Kindly fix it and remove the imaginary straight line. If there are multiple pauses and starts for a long walk, the final track looks unnecessarily clumsy for these multiple imaginary lines. Will update to 5 stars, when fixed. Edit : Ok.
5 ★Records well. The "view in Google earth" button goes to Earth but the track doesn't show. It will show if I manually load it via "projects" in Earth,. Edit: I will try your tip below. Excellent, the tip worked. Go to "settings", "apps", "earth", "permissions" and "storage" and set that to enabled.
2 ★It is easy to use when it's working and is pretty responsive. At first it was doing a great job logging, I would use the ( .gpx ) file with ( exiftool ) to geotag photographs taken with a camera that does not embed gps information. After about four (4) weeks using the app, the last few photo shoots had the locations way off. It kind of became untrustworthy.
5 ★Edited: Overall experience has been excellent. Love the ability to pause the recording of a track and to add placemarks. I am presently using four different GPS apps simultaneously. File sizes are moderate compared to other apps. Good performance. - previously reported problem with track export was caused by the phone, not this application.
5 ★Many here report erratic logging. I did not have that problem on my tablet but did with an android 10 phone. Logging would halt as soon as the GPS signal became weak, and never recover when running in sleep mode. Although the app had permission to access my location when running, it also needed permission at all times - to recover from signal loss. After granting that extra permission it now works perfectly for me. Hope this helps others.
4 ★***Samsung Owner Warning: this app doesn't work unless your power save settings are set to 'High Performance'*** This app is easily the best lightweight gps logger I've used. Unfortunately, it seems that several distributions of android (looking at you, Samsung) ignore battery optimization settings and restrict its ability to work when the display is locked, rendering it nearly useless for screen-off tracking unless you max out your power settings and just use a battery bank.
3 ★Has continuous issue finding location when moving in vehicle. Walking track recording is satisfactory. Creates placemarks but missed tracks
