Kitab ini sangat terkenal di Indonesia, khususnya di kalangan pesantren.
Hampir tak ada satu pun pesantren -terutama pesantren nahdhiyyin- di Indonesia kecuali menggunakan kitab ini sebagai salah satu kurikulum wajibnya.
Kitab ini hanya berisi kesimpulan hukum-hukum madzhab syafi’i sehingga kita tidak akan mendapati pengambilan dalil dalam penetapan suatu hukum karena memang kitab ini ditujukan bagi para pemula dalam menuntut ilmu.
Bila kita membaca kitab ini dengan seksama, memang banyak masalah yang tergolong ikhtilaf di kalangan ulama ahli fiqih antar madzhab bahkan di kalangan madzhab syafi’i sendiri.
