GEO-ITEMS เป็นแอพพลิเคชั่นที่พัฒนาขึ้นเพื่อใช้สำหรับการรายงานข้อมูลอุบัติเหตุทางถนนที่ระบุตำแหน่งในเชิงพิกัดภูมิศาสตร์โดยหน่วยกู้ชีพ/กู้ภัย ผ่านทางโทรศัพท์ Smart Phone โดยข้อมูลต่างๆ เช่น วัน เวลา ตำแหน่งจุดเกิดอุบัติเหตุ รูปแบบการชน จำนวนผู้ประสบเหตุ รวมไปถึงภาพถ่ายอุบัติเหตุ ที่ถูกรายงานโดยแอพพลิเคชั่น GEO-ITEMS นี้ จะถูกนำไปแสดงผลผ่านทาง Web Application ของระบบฯ ในรูปแบบ Real Time นอกจากนี้ในส่วนของ Web Application ของระบบฯ ยังถูกออกแบบให้มีการเชื่อมโยงข้อมูลกับระบบสารสนเทศการแพทย์ฉุกเฉิน (ITEMS) ของสถาบันการแพทย์ฉุกเฉินแห่งชาติ (สพฉ.) ทำให้ข้อมูลการให้บริการการแพทย์ฉุกเฉิน สามารถเชื่อมโยงกับตำแหน่งที่เกิดเหตุและมีความสมบูรณ์มากยิ่งขึ้น รวมไปถึงการออกแบบให้มี Dashboard ที่สามารถแสดงผลการปฏิบัติงานต่างๆ ของหน่วยกู้ชีพ/กู้ภัย ที่ลงทะเบียนเข้ามาใช้บริการได้เช่น ระดับความรุนแรงของเหตุที่ออกปฏิบัติการ ระยะเวลาในการออกปฏิบัติการ ระยะเวลาในการนำส่งผู้ประสบเหตุ ข้อมูลอุบัติเหตุรายเคสที่ออกปฏิบัติการ เป็นต้น โดยสามารถแสดงผลในระดับหน่วยปฏิบัติการหรือระดับพื้นที่ของการปฏิบัติงานได้ ทั้งนี้ การพัฒนาและเชื่อมโยงฐานข้อมูลดังกล่าว นอกจากจะมีประโยชน์ในการวางแผนและดำเนินมาตรการป้องกันและแก้ไขอุบัติเหตุทางถนนแล้ว ยังสามารถนำไปประโยชน์ในการวางแผนและบริหารจัดการต่างๆ ของหน่วยกู้ชีพ/กู้ภัย ได้เช่นเดียวกันสำหรับการพัฒนาต้นแบบระบบการรายงานข้อมูลอุบัติเหตุทางถนนที่ระบุตำแหน่งในเชิงพิกัดภูมิศาสตร์โดยหน่วยกู้ชีพ/กู้ภัยนี้ ได้รับการสนับสนุนจากสำนักงานกองทุนสนับสนุนการสร้างเสริมสุขภาพ (สสส.)
โดยเป็นการดำเนินงานภายใต้ความร่วมมือระหว่าง สถาบันการแพทย์ฉุกเฉินแห่งชาติ (สพฉ.) มูลนิธิไทยโรดส์ ศูนย์วิจัยอุบัติเหตุแห่งประเทศไทย สถาบันเทคโนโลยีแห่งเอเซีย (เอไอที) ศูนย์เทคโนโลยีอิเล็กทรอนิกส์และคอมพิวเตอร์แห่งชาติ (NECTEC) และศูนย์วิชาการเพื่อความปลอดภัยทางถนน (ศวปถ.) โดยมีวัตถุประสงค์เพื่อให้ได้มาซึ่งข้อมูล “ตำแหน่งของสถานที่เกิดอุบัติเหตุ” ซึ่งเป็นข้อมูลพื้นฐานที่สำคัญอย่างยิ่งในการป้องกันและแก้ไขปัญหาอุบัติเหตุทางถนน สามารถระบุให้ทราบถึงจุดเสี่ยงหรือจุดอันตราย (Black Spot) หรือจุดที่มักเกิดอุบัติเหตุกับยานพาหนะหรือผู้ใช้ถนนบางประเภท อันจะช่วยสนับสนุนให้การกำหนดแนวทางและดำเนินมาตรการแก้ไขปัญหาเป็นไปอย่างตรงจุดและเป็นรูปธรรมได้ในอนาคต
