Menurut Habib Mundzir, Maulid Adh-Dhiyaul Lami ditulis pada tahun 1994 di Kota Syihir, dekat Mukalla, Hadramaut, saat saya di sana. Maulid Adh-dhiya’ullami ini ditulis oleh Guru Mulia pada saat dini hari dan rampungnya pada saat sebelum akhir sepertiga malam terakhir.Guru Mulia Al-Habib Umar banyak sekali membuat syair, beberapa diantaranya sempat tercatat oleh murid-murid beliau, ada juga yang merekamnya, dan diantara ribuan syair tersebut adalah Maulid Adh-Dhiyaul Lami ini.
Guru Mulia memiliki keahlian sastra bahasa yang tinggi dan beliau memadunya dengan kekuatan ruh beliau di dalam makrifah dan dipadu pula dengan kedalaman Ilmu syariah dan keluasan ilmu hadits yang beliau miliki, beliau memadukan semuanya kedalam Maulid Adh-Dhiyaul Lami. Hal ini dalam kekeramatan Aulia disebut Warad, semacam ilham tapi dari keahlian manusia yang dipadu Allah, ini juga disebut ladunniy.
Guru Mulia pada suatu malam memanggil salah satu muridnya yang penulis, lalu berkata: “Bawakan kertas, tulislah”. Lalu beliau berucap, melantunkan Maulid Adh-Dhiyaul Lami mulai tengah malam, dan sekitar sepertiga malam terakir seluruh Maulid Adh-Dhiyaul Lami sudah selesai, ujar Habib Mundzir.
