La SOCIEDAD COLOMBIANA DE MEDICINA DEL TRABAJO es una entidad que desde su fundación el día 26 de marzo de 1946, ha sido trascendente con su presencia en el seno de la nación, lo cual se verifica con los aportes que desde entonces ha hecho a la creación de las primeras normas específicas relacionadas con parámetros de detección precoz de enfermedades, profesionales, prevención de accidentes de trabajo y la calificación de las perdidas de capacidad laboral, entre otras.Además ha sido pionera en la organización de eventos científicos sobre Medicina del Trabajo y Salud Ocupacional, disciplinas que en las últimas décadas han adquirido un gran auge gracias al apoyo legal que se le ha dado por parte de las entidades del estado.
Desde 1995, la Sociedad es miembro principal de la Asociación latinoamericana de Salud Ocupacional (ALSO), habiéndola presidido durante el período 1997 a 1999 y por decisión de la Asamblea realizada en Sao Paulo Brasil, ejerció su presidencia para el período 2005 a 2007.
Entidad medica, científica, sin animo de lucro domiciliada en Bogotá, con personería jurídica No. 962 del 21 de Marzo de 1961 otorgada por el Ministerio de Justicia y del Derecho, debidamente inscrita en la Cámara de Comercio de Bogotá bajo el número 00049515 del Libro I de las entidades sin animo de lucro con NIT. 860.079.886-9 como consta en el Certificado de Existencia y Representación Legal y con Licencia de Salud Ocupacional de la Secretaría Distrital de Salud de Bogotá, Resolución No. 15175 del 27 de Noviembre de 2013.
