Il territorio di Octavia rappresenta un’area omogenea, in virtù di una storia comune legata all’appartenenza al Marchesato di Saluzzo e di una economia prevalentemente rurale, che richiama la permanenza dei "margari" che dalla montagna si spostavano verso le zone pianeggianti nel periodo invernale e le massicce produzioni locali, soprattutto di frutta, formaggi e lavorazioni dolciarie, oltre ad un’importante tradizione di artigianato legato alla lavorazione del legno. Questo retaggio storico- produttivo comune ha lasciato importanti testimonianze, di cui sono permeati i beni storico-architettonici disseminati sul territorio e il tessuto economico- sociale attuale.L’area può essere accostata all’immagine di una "terra di mezzo", non ancora pienamente in pianura e parzialmente montana o confinante con aree montane, di cui condivide caratteristiche morfologiche e socio-economiche, al contempo con un influsso dominante del marchesato di Saluzzo dal punto di vista storico- culturale.
