Osmanlı Tarihinin En Büyük Deniz Komutanı Barbaros Hayreddin Paşa ; (1478; Midilli - 4 Temmuz 1546; İstanbul), Osmanlı Devleti tarihinin ünlü Türk denizcilerinden, kaptan-ı derya olarak Osmanlı İmparatorluğunun ilk kaptan paşası ve büyük amirali. Akdeniz'de Osmanlı egemenliğini pekiştirdi, öyle ki bu deniz bazı tarihçilerce bir "Türk Gölü" olarak anıldı. Osmanlı'nın deniz politikasına ve Tersane-i Amire'ye nizam verdi.
Hayreddin Paşa'nın asıl adı Hızır Reis'ti. Ona, "dinin hayırlısı" anlamına gelen Hayreddin adını, Osmanlı Devletine yaptığı hizmetinden dolayı Padişah I. Süleyman verdi. Avrupalılar ağabeyi Oruç Reis'e kızıla çalan sakalı yüzünden Barbarossa adını vermişlerdi, Oruç Reis'in ölmesinin ardından küçük kardeşi Hızır için kullanılan bu isim, Türkçeye Barbaros olarak geçti.
