“fardhu itu lebih utama daripada sunnat.” (as-Suyuthi.TT:99)
Misalnya seseorang yang masih mempunyai tanggungan menqadha’ puasa ramadhan, kemudian ia melakukan puasa bulan syawal dengan niatan puasa, maka yang lebih baik dan yang lebih utama adalah melakukan puasa qadha’ ramadhan dulu, karena itu lebih penting.
Ibadah merupakan suatu keharusan yang dikenal dengan fardlu atau wajib, ada pula yang hanya dianjurkan pengamalannya (sunah). Perdebatan karasteristik semacm ini merupakan memberi pengaruh pada tinggi rendahnya derajat ibadah.

“Sesungguhnya Rasullah bersabda: Barang siapa yang melakukan taqorrub (ibadah sunnah) kepda Allah SWT. Di bulan ramadlon, maka ia akan mendapakan pahala sebagai ia melakukan satu ibadah fardu dibulan ramadlon, maka seperti halnya mengerjakan 70 kali ibadah faardu pada selain bulan romadlon ”
