Cut the circle out. This is the basic pattern for your newspaper flower. Place the circle pattern on newspaper and draw around it. Cut out the newspaper circle. Fold the circle in half and crease. Fold it in half two more times and crease. You will end up with a pointed teardrop shape with eight layers.
Place the folded teardrop on your work surface with the pointed end pointing toward you. Measure 1 inch down each of the long edges from the rounded top, and mark with a pencil. Draw an arch from one mark, on one edge of the teardrop, to the other mark on the other edge. The top center of the arch should touch the wide end of the teardrop. Cut along the drawn line through all eight layers. The new shape will resemble an ice cream cone. Unfold the circle to reveal eight rounded petals around the circle edge.
Cut out one petal section along the folded seam from the outer edge of the circle to the center. Apply stick glue to a petal on one side of the cut out section. Place the petal on the other side of the cut out section over the glued petal, matching the edges. This will cup the circle to form a horn shaped flower blossom.
Cut a 12-inch length of a green cloth covered floral wire using wire cutters. Insert an end of the wire through the bottom point of the flower blossom. Grasp the wire end inside the blossom with needle-nose pliers and curl to form a small loop. Pull the wire stem on the bottom of the blossom to fit the loop until it is snug in the inside center of the blossom.
Cover the wire loop with hot glue and cover with a 1/2 inch pom pom in a color of your choice. The hot glue will secure the wire and the pom pom becomes the colorful center of your newspaper flower. Place a cutting blade from a pair of scissors under a petal with your thumb on top. Gently pull the scissors outward to create a slight curl on the end of the petal. Dip a wedge makeup sponge into acrylic paint that matches the pom pom. Dab off most of the paint on scrap newspaper. Lightly smudge the edges of each petal with the sponge. Allow the paint to dry.
