作者簡介
約翰·班揚是英國文學史上著名的小說家和散文家。他1628年生於英國，父親是一個補鍋匠。 由於家境拮据，班揚所受教育有限。他少年時加入克倫威爾的軍隊，從軍生涯是他一生的轉捩點。班揚在軍隊中聽浸禮派時道，並對《聖經》和馬丁·路德的著作刻苦鑽研。1660年，英國的王政復辟後，班揚因為代表大多數貧同利益傳教，而與當時政權和官方宗教發生衝突，當局藉口未經許可傳教，將其逮捕，此後他被囚禁長達12年之久。
