A exposição “Zeitgeist – Arte da nova Berlim” reúne, pela primeira vez no Brasil, um panorama consistente da respeitada comunidade artística de Berlim, traduzindo o espírito de uma época marcada por contradições e reinvenções. A mostra reúne pintura, fotografia, videoarte, performance, instalação e a cultura dos clubs berlinenses, na visão de 29 renomados artistas.Marcada por duas guerras mundiais e dividida pelo Muro durante quase três décadas, a capital da Alemanha se reergueu das cinzas. Da vida improvisada dos anos 1990, as contradições que caracterizaram a cidade, reinventada a partir de dois mundos, acabaram por formar, pouco a pouco, o Zeitgeist – espírito de uma época, a partir do qual a arte, a cultura e as relações humanas evoluem – que hoje projeta sua influência muito além da Europa Central e atrai artistas do mundo todo com seu magnetismo.
O percurso concebido para a mostra Zeitgeist é uma oportunidade de vivenciar alguns dos aspectos que fazem de Berlim um lugar encantado entre extremos, e que são recorrentes no modo de existir da metrópole. Como observadores atentos da vida da cidade, do mesmo modo que o pintor Adolph von Menzel (1815-1905), um dos maiores representantes do realismo alemão, os artistas da mostra exibem aspectos marcantes da capital da Alemanha.
