4 ★Free version is the absolute best free vpn option, hands down. Their paid subscription is pricy but fair if you align with their ethos. My biggest problems were with reconnecting after network outage - after a few minutes it would stop trying, and the relatively slow speeds. Comparable priced alternatives were more persistent in reconnecting, generally faster, but lack protons ethos.
1 ★I used this VPN for about a month and it worked perfectly but a from the 1st week of October is doesn't work anymore in China. My husband and I both had the app but it became useless. Such a shame because I think it was the best free VPN out there. I have a Samsung J7. Perhaps it works on others but I doubt it because we tried on a iPhone and it didn't work either.
4 ★i use the app in 30 minute intervals max to watch videos or download or purchase content not available where I'm currently located. mostly to take advantage of picture in picture that doesn't work where i am though its a phone feature. it works perfectly on android pie for this though once and a while i have some trouble on my phone that uses oreo but not to much trouble that lt makes the app usable like some others i tried. overall great app.
3 ★Plus: - Ok-ish speeds in the free version. - Nice UI - Privacy oriented (so I've read) Minus: - There should be some kind of persistent notification/status bar with a connect/disconnect button, because if I disconnect from a server, I have to restart the app from the menu to reconnect. This would be an especially handy feature in the free version considering that with no free server in my country I have to disconnect often to use some streaming services, for example.
5 ★Came from Cyber ghost, an already top-notch VPN, but wholeheartedly shifting to PROTON. From the interface to the servers, you know that the people behind the product are really passionate about what they're doing. Godspeed (even in remote locations), and extremely secure. Nothing more to say, simply the best.
3 ★too many clicks needed to connect. initial screen is list of countries, would prefer if it was my favorite connections. option to disconnect is not always visible in the app - it should be. When device goes offline with VPN running,VPN never reconnects when device goes back online. Forgets the password far too often. To be clear, these comments are only about the app, not the vpn service itself.
2 ★I tried to sign up on this app today but when it took me to chrome to get started...I couldn't reach the site. My internet is really good and I even tested it to see if the internet was my problem but it wasn't. I then typed in the link about a support form and that wouldn't let me reach the site either...please fix this!
2 ★I keep losing connection to the VPN. I know this cause I have the Killswitch enabled in Android VPN settings. I have disabled battery optimizations, including battery saving mode, forced it to always be on, and I'm considered a trial user. If this is what's to be expected at the highest paying tier, I'll stick with the free plan. I even tried switching connection types in app for a more "stable" connection and noticed no difference. ...at least they have good features though, so ⭐⭐ instead of ⭐
1 ★Security certificate is signed and controlled by 3rd party with confirmed IP proxy operation. P.VPN have refused to correct this huge privacy issue. App drops the encrypted tunnel constantly, although persistent notification STILL says "connected." If not for "block connections without VPN" setting ON you wouldn't realize as unencrypted data will flow!! Are these things related? Unsure but complete loss of trust in this product. Switched to Perfect Privacy and dropped TUN not happening!!
2 ★2 stars instead of one because I like the options available and ease of use, but the speeds are atrocious. My wifi network is rated at over 100mbps, when I use a speed tester I get around 70-80mbps on average without the VPN active. With it active I am only getting 2-3mbps. Absolutely unacceptable, I will more than likely be going back to unprotected use if I don't find a suitable replacement because it's so excruciatingly slow.
3 ★It is a good VPN but it loses its use, by that I mean, it won't be fast anymore and it fails to connect sometimes, so it can last a year or so, and eventually you'll have to get a new VPN. It is kind of sad to leave this VPN since it is the only fast free popular VPN, what am I saying is, it basically rusts like metal. And then gets old and stops working.
5 ★I've used this for over a year and I really like it. I feel very safe. The only complaint I have is about a month ago it shut down my computer completely. When I called proton and emailed them for some reason they couldn't understand ..shut down completely. But all in all this is THE best. If you do the trial I guarantee you'll upgrade and it is not expensive.im not thrilled customer service didnt do anything but .. one time thing. I'm telling you guys you will love it and I don't like anything
