새 찬송가는 1996년 '21세기 찬송가 개발위원회'를 구성하여 10년 동안 각계 각층의 전문인력이 동원되어 연구와 검토를 거치고, 6차례의 공청회와 토론회를 통하여 의견을 수렴한 끝에 3만여 곡의 찬송가 가운데 645곡을 선정하여 2006년 11월 출판되었습니다.
