Gran parte de las torres y de los castillos de la Anoia se construyeron entre mediados del siglo X y mediados del XI. Por aquel entonces, los condes de Barcelona, Osona-Manresa y Berga-Cerdaña ocuparon y repoblaron el territorio, y desplazaron a los antiguos posesores musulmanes. Cuando la zona dejó de ser primera línea de frontera, los castillos se convirtieron en el centro administrativo de los nuevos señoríos feudales. Entre otros, destacaron familias como los Claramunt, los Montbui, los Tous o los Òdena.
A partir del siglo XIV, la familia de los Cardona se hizo con los principales señoríos de la comarca, de forma que las torres y los castillos pasaron a ser el lugar de residencia de sus administradores. Con el paso de los siglos y el aumento del peso de las ciudades, los castillos se fueron abandonando o bien se reconvirtieron en masías o casas.
Actualmente, todos ellos son una magnífica tarjeta de presentación para la comarca de la Anoia.
