The topographic maps were created by Land Information New Zealand (LINZ).
Topo50 is the official topographic map series used by New Zealand emergency services.
How topographic information is used
Defence planning: New Zealand's defence forces use topographic information for planning military exercises and swapping information with international partners.
Location and routing: Search and Rescue, defence, ambulance, fire service, police and civil defence agencies use topographic information in a wide range of planning and operational situations, from natural disasters to community policing. Usage may involve mobile/field and control room situations, and the combination of topographic information with other data.
Land management: Topographic information is used by local government for regional planning and operations, and by power, gas and telecommunications companies.
In addition, LINZ maps are used for a great variety of purposes by businesses and government departments such as the Department of Conservation, and by recreational users such as trampers and tourists.
All topographic maps have additional labels for better readability at higher zoom scales. Maps are rendered with Atlogis® hillshading to enhance topography.

New Zealand and Islands (Antipodes, Auckland, Bounty, Campbell, Chatham, Kermadec, Raoul, Snares and Stewart Islands) at scale 1:50.000 and 1:250.000
Cook Islands (Aitutaki, Atiu, Mangaia, Manihiki, Mauke, Mitiaro, Palmerston, Penrhyn, Pukapuka, Rakahanga, Rarotonga, Suwarrow, Takute) at scale 1:25.000
Tokelau Islands (Atafu, Nukunonu, Fakaofo) at scale 1:25.000

5 ★Awesome app. I use it all the time in the bush. Paid version is good you can cache the maps so don't need to worry about reception, but even the free version is great. good to be able to print out detailed maps of areas you going to be exploring
2 ★quite good for free but the trail maps are very outdated. Some tracks that are years old aren't shown, and even the tracks shown can be wrong or missing crucial parts . For this reason this only gets two stars. If the maps are kept updated I would give it 5.
5 ★Excellent app. The raster charts are very accurate. I particularly like the different layers. From a particular spots I can evaluate the options available on the water, below the surface or up on the hills.
4 ★Seems good, not sure how accurate the NZTM is, will have to check. Not enough data is displayed on the main screen, as I want more info about where I am and where I'm going without having to make a waypoint.
1 ★Total waste of time, under no circumstances pay for this app. Maps won't download or even display whether on Wi-Fi or mobile data. Terrible experience wasting both time and money. Avoid the frustration and use something else.
1 ★Pro version is not worth it. Downloads extremely slow - eg trying to get the linz aerial images for a reasonably small area (say 10km by 10km) might be 500mb to 1gb but takes 2 or 3 hours plus to download (and my internet can usually download 20-30gb an hour). Been trying to get just topo maps for all of South island and download time is another day to go and it's at 60% currently.
1 ★Disappointed. Have been using the PRO version for 3 years and the app must of had an update and has lost ALL of my way points. Hundreds of waypoints and dozens and dozens of deer contact points gone! Campsites etc. Seems to have lost all my cached maps too.
5 ★Excellent. But would be good to have a guide to explain how everything works. It had a brief description of what the top tool bar means when I first downloaded the app. But that's disappeared now. So not quite sure how it all works now.
4 ★Pro user. Disappointed by the subscription model, and developers are a bit slow to respond to issues. But it's still the best mapping app in New Zealand.
5 ★Love this app, don't use my GPS anymore. Would be great to be able to put waypoints into categories, eg I have to many fishing spots mixed in with hunting spots. Would be wicked to be able to separate them
5 ★I've spent a lot of time in the bush and the maps are very detailed and accurate! The setting option are very useful and meet virtually every need I have.
5 ★one of the best map apps I've tried out. every now and then when I try to pin point my location it thinks I'm about 5 ks away but as soon as I move the screen to where I actually am, it sorts its self out. no biggy. great app.
