Der Dichter und Dramatiker Bert Brecht wurde am 10. Februar 1898 in einem kleinen Handwerkerhaus, unweit des historischen Rathauses, im sogenannten Lechviertel, geboren.
Er verbrachte seine gesamte Kindheit und Jugend in Augsburg. Der erste Weltkrieg zwang ihn zum Notabitur. Anschließend immatrikulierte er sich an der Universität München für Medizin und Naturwissenschaften. Seine Leidenschaft galt jedoch immer der Literatur. Brecht zählt, neben Thomas Mann und Franz Kafka, zu den meistgelesenen deutschen Schriftstellern des 20. Jahrhunderts. Einige der bekanntesten Gedichte Brechts entstanden in seiner Augsburger Zeit.
Sein literarisches Erbe umfasst 2300 Gedichte, 200 Erzählungen, 48 Theaterstücke, zahlreiche philosophische und theoretische Abhandlungen, Briefe und Drehbücher.
