Rodeado de cerros de altitud media –baja, con olivos, almendros y algarrobos, este pequeño pueblo tiene una situación geográfica privilegiada por su altura y cercanía al mar.Sus principales atractivos son sus paisajes entre los cauces de dos pequeños arroyos, y su casco urbano de calles blancas, estrechas y empinadas que recuerdan su pasado andalusí. El nombre de Totalán, es de origen árabe y significa torta, debido a que este pueblo era uno de los lugares de la provincia donde se producía tan típica repostería.
