Theo yêu cầu của Ban Giám Hiệu trường Trung Cấp Phật Học tỉnh Long An, chúng tôi bắt đầu giảng dạy bộ môn Thiền học từ năm 2003. Thật ra chúng tôi cũng đã dạy môn Thực tập Thiền quán ở khóa trước với các bài giáo khoa khác hơn một chút. Tuy nhiên, ý nghĩa của Thiền Học lớn hơn nên chúng tôi cho phép đi nhiều về lý thuyết, vì dù sao lý thuyết cũng là định hướng cho thực hành. Vì phải chuẩn bị chuyển sang dạy môn khác nên chúng tôi chấp nhận kết thúc môn Thiền học này với 20 bài vỏn vẹn. Giáo lý và Đường đi của Thiền thì mênh mông vô tận. Hai mươi bài này chỉ là định hướng căn bản cho Tăng Ni sinh để các em làm hành trang tu tập suốt đời, và sẽ tự mình tìm thấy nhiều điều hay hơn nữa.Chúng tôi mạnh dạn đưa vào phương pháp Khí công để hỗ trợ công lực cho người tu thiền, vì nhận thấy gương đức Phật khi còn là Thái tử đã thành tựu Khí công, cũng như gương tổ Bồ đề Đạt ma với những huyền thoại Khí công đầy hấp dẫn.
Chúng tôi thiết lập giáo trình này dựa chủ yếu vào Tứ Niệm Xứ của hệ thống kinh tạng Nguyên thủy, với mục tiêu Vô ngã là cứu kính. Những tông phái khác cũng được tham khảo để bổ sung. Chúng tôi cố gắng tránh những chủ quan của tông phái để chỉ trình bày theo tính cách nghiên cứu của Trường học, một cách khách quan.
