संत एकनाथ हे महाराष्ट्रातील वारकरी संप्रदायातील एक सुप्रसिद्ध संत होते. त्यांचा जन्म इ.स. १५३३ मध्ये पैठण येथे झाला. शांतिब्रह्म, ‘संत’पदाला पोहोचलेले सत्पुरुष, उच्च कोटीचे समाजसुधारक, महान तत्त्ववेत्ता, संस्कृत भाषेचे गाढे अभ्यासक अशा अनेक गुणविशेषणांसह ’ज्ञानाचा एका’ या बिरुदावलीने साऱ्या महाराष्ट्राला परिचित असणारे व्यक्तिमत्त्व म्हणजे संत एकनाथ. आदर्श गृहस्थाश्रमी, मायमराठीचे सुपुत्र, व्युत्पन्नमति पंडित, दयेचा सागर या शब्दांतही त्यांचे वर्णन करता येईल. एकनाथांनी देवगिरी (दौलताबाद) च्या जनार्दनस्वामींना त्यांनी गुरू मानले. त्यांच्याकडूनच एकनाथांनी वेदान्त, योग, भक्तियोग यांचे शिक्षण घेतले. बराचसा काळ ध्यान आणि वेदाध्ययनात घालवला. गुरूंबरोबर तीर्थयात्रा केल्यानंतर त्यांनी गृहस्थाश्रम स्वीकारला. गिरिजाबाई हे त्यांच्या पत्नीचे नाव. एकनाथांचे मूळ पुरुष भास्करपंत कुलकर्णी, हे प्रतिष्ठान ऊर्फ पैठण नगरीत राहणारे होते. संत भानुदास हे एकनाथांचे पणजोबा. ते सूर्याची उपासना करीत. श्री संत एकनाथांच्या वडिलांचे नाव सूर्यनारायण होते. आईचे नाव रुक्मिणी होते. एकनाथांचा जन्म शके १४५० ते १४५५ या दरम्यान झाल्याचे मानले जाते. दुर्दैवाने त्यांना आई-वडिलांचा सहवास फार काळ लाभला नाही. त्यांचे पालनपोषण आजोबांनी केले. चकपाणी आणि सरस्वती हे त्यांचे आजोबा व आजी होत. एकनाथांना लहानपणापासून अध्यात्मज्ञानाची व हरिकीर्तनाची आवड होती.
