Description

Nearby Explorer Online is a free outdoor and indoor location app designed for use by people who are blind. It supports onboard maps from OpenStreetMap, and can optionally augment these maps with online data from Google Places.
The app works by letting you select from different location related options about what to announce as you move. These include typical items like street name, address, and nearby places as well as the distance and direction to them. (All announcements are optional.) All of this information is shown on the main screen and is available at any time, but typical use is to adjust the level of announcements, then lock the screen and put the device away. This keeps both hands free and lets your preferred voice speak the characteristics of the environment as you move.
You may also use the devices position and orientation to obtain additional targeted details such as pointing the end of the device to scan for points of interest or tilting it vertically to function as a compass. You may even mark a point, then use the position of the device to get haptic feedback about that point's location.
You may also create favorites, name them, and share them on OpenStreetMap so others can benefit from the places you mark and identify.
A transit feature is included which provides detailed mass transit schedules for over 100 metropolitan areas in the U. S. and Canada. The app treats transit stops just like favorites and points of interest by announcing their name and relative position as you move, but in addition, transit stops add next vehicle stop time, direction of travel, and route name to the announcements. You can use the transit schedules to look up times or even follow a route.
You may virtually move to any area and explore, search, or use the transit maps for that area.

Questions & Answers

Q: What is an APK File?

A: Just like Windows (PC) systems use an .exe file for installing software, Android does the same. An APK file is the file format used for installing software on the Android operating system.

Q: If I install an APK from this website, will I be able to update the app from the Play Store?

A: Yes, absolutely. The Play Store installs APKs it downloads from Google's servers, and sideloading from a site like ApkClean.net goes through a very similar process, except you're the one performing the downloading and initiating the installation (sideloading).
As soon as the Play Store finds a version of the app newer than the one you've sideloaded, it will commence an update.

Q: Why ApkClean.net can guarantee APK 100% safe?

A: Whenever someone wants to download an APK file from ApkClean.net, we'll check the corresponding APK file on Google Play and allow user download it directly (of course, we'll cache it on our server). If the APK file does not exist on Google Play, we'll search it in our cache.

Q: What are Android App permissions?

A: Apps require access to certain systems within your device. When you install an application, you are notified of all of the permissions required to run that application.

5 ★Very good
5 ★Thanks
3 ★Good app
5 ★Great.
5 ★Helpfull
2 ★I was lookkkkkking for an aaapp that would offer me similaaaaaar to Bliiindsquarre, and I thought I had it with this app. It worked well the first 2 times, announccing busstops and intersections as I travelled. Over the last couple days, however, the app has become very unreliable. It only gets within a mile in accuracy, and often stops working completely. If the goal of this app was to get me to buy the full version, they missed it by... Oh... 1.2 miles, or maybe just 200 yards.
5 ★I absolutely love this app! It's just like having a sighted person sitting beside me telling me what places are coming up and what streets I'm approaching. It's also quite customizable and being an Android user I definitely appreciate that. I would highly recommend installing, as I don't think you'll be disappointed at all.
5 ★Great news, free, and worldwide. super start outside the u.s, sure will deep test it. thanks.
5 ★Great app indeed.
5 ★Love this app
2 ★This interface is weird. It gives you a list of checkboxes, and it is initially unclear what checking the boxes does. It also uses a self-voicing system for announcing things, instead of talkback.I would not expect AFB to use a half-baked self-voicing solution to do the talking. There are major accuracy errors often when using this app, and there is no clear way to force a recalculation. To give a real and practical example of this, I was on an evening walk this year, in summer, which means the sun was giving me close to the actual compass direction of west. I was walking with the sun at my back, and the app said I was traveling east. Suddenly, while the sun was still at my back, the app claimed I was walking west, and it refused to rethink that decision. Another thing is that the "approaching" checkbox does not work, ever. I've given this app several walks to test this on. My last major complaint about this app is its use of data. TLDR, don't turn it on, it used over a GB of data on my phone, more than on 1 occasion, in one setting, on mobile data. No, I'm not joking.
5 ★Nice for visually impaired navigation assistance.
